Call your provider and let them know you’re not getting what you paid for. They will likely have you use their own speed test facility, as they typically don’t like the ones most of us have access to. I had similar problems with my Internet speed, and Spectrum replaced both the cable modem and router...problem fixed!

With Optimum, I’m getting 220 Mbps d/l & 35 mbps upload. I’m paying for 200 so I’m not doing too bad.
However, I bought my own modem & have my own router which I think is helping me.
Note that the above speeds are average but can vary during the day.
Also, I use YouTubeTv. Kinda cut the cord.
Now I’m paying almost 50% less; almost $150 from before. I also use the same YTTV in Florida with XFinity. Very little inconvenience since switching.

Wonder if AT&T is having the same problem...perhaps its time to shop around.

Comcast is my only option for fast internet. I have been watching HD streaming on two TV's and participating in Zoom meetings without any problem. They just raised my bill by $10.

I had the same problem and found out that I was always connecting to the slow speed 2.4mbs section of their modem not the high speed 5.4 connection. I had them split the high speed from the slow speed section and now have 2 different connections. I currently only connect to the high speed one and have speeds up to 300mbs. you might want to try this solution.

My first xfinity installer put in the wrong modem. That may be the problem. Now I’m getting what I pay for- 100+ download, 25+ upload. No problem streaming 4k, no pausing. Great cable. Very expensive. I’m one of the few that likes comcast- except the first week. An installer had to be followed by a tech to fix the installation. Twice. The first installer tried to remove one of the cable boxes because, according to him the signal was too strong. I chased him out of the house. I was pretty loud.
However, on L.I. my kids use FIOS. They get over 200 download and 400 upload, but it sucks. Lots of stuttering. Poor reach, even with extensions. His cable sucks as well.

I got rid of FIOS, Spectrum was half the price and faster.

I see this when I test (almost everytime): We are on Spectrum, I've found that once they detect you are testing DL speed/time it magically gets faster/better, each and every time. I use at least 3 diff. speed checkers and rotate through area servers and see varying results, week in/week out. Always tested with latest high speed CAT 6/7/8 type cables. The results below can be duplicated just about everyday. My desktop is cleaned/tuned weekly, so it is a fast as when brand new.

1st test - low/slow result - looks throttled = 10 - 30 Mbps DL, 5mb UL, ping time 10 - 30 ms
2nd test - still low/slow - 20-40 mb DL, 5-8 mb UL, ping varies in 5-30 ms range
3rd test - start getting 40-80 mb DL, UL remains in the 6-8 mb zone, ping varies

Usually by the 4th or 5th or by changing servers (various in the mid - florida region) things start to improve and will average 85-100 mb DL, 6-8mb UL, but ping time still covers anywhere from 5ms to 40ms, sometimes longer. My speed is supposed to be 100+, and when you complain they say "we only go by our own speed testing", and when they run it magically hits approx. what I'm paying for, but everytime I test (always hardwired, latest Cat 6/7/8, not using wifi - should support 1 GB per second). I have no other option tha would make sense dollar wise/performance wise. so kind of stuck for now.....hope to see really high speed here someday. Mind you, I appreciate that this is much faster than the old days, but they do "throttle", and it got worse when the school kids came back on line, but I expected that....maybe 5G will make it's way to internet someday.......

Local paper has talked of this and yes things are now slower due to all the students at home, etc. All systems have some max total load they can carry and now everyone home is using it for work and play. We have DISH satellite and last winter it was pretty useless, but better over the summer. We gave up on anything on demand. Only choice here, no cable, DSL, etc. Even cell phone does not work, but then no one cares what we do, no home owners associations, and can see milky way, rural western Maryland.

I have found that the speed you are paying for is only a maximum that is available, not guaranteed. You might get that speed on occasion, but not every time you use the service.

I'm fairly certain their user agreement will state that speeds are "up to xxx" and are not guaranteed, although it should be closer than what you have. Xfinity recommends periodic rebooting of your modem/router. It never hurts.

I use Spectrum, 400mbs and I usually get around 450mbs when I do a speed test, never less than advertised, love it.
