Interesting Situation with Sirius/XM

In 1999, I bought a Lifetime subscription to XM radio. The portable radio is in my car, and when I turned it on today, all I got was the advertising for XM. It looks like it isn't registered anymore. I'm going to wait till Monday to call them. Maybe they think eleven years is a lifetime.

I'll let you know how this develops.

"Life time" can be a squishy concept.
My Dad purchased a "life time" AARP membership; some time later, they started asking for dues again.
At the time he died, he was saying "no", so I told them that when they continued to send dunning letters after he died.

I paid $372.00 in 2004 for a Sirius lifetime plan.
About once a month they do a ch update which takes a couple of minutes.
I had to pay $75.00 to transfer the account from one vehicle to a newer vehicle.
They no longer offer Life Time plans.

The subscription was supposed to be for the life of the radio. This is a replacement, and I paid $75 to transfer the registration to it. It's a one-time deal. I can't keep buying new radios and transferring. The original radio was built into the car. I'll call them tomorrow.

I gave up on Sirius when they took off The Loft and replaced it with the Tom Petty channel. Like they had no other place to put him.

I have XM radio in both of my cars. Once in a while (yes, it is irritating) the radio reverts to the default channel with advertising. I just change to a new channel and all is OK. I have transferred subscriptions to new cars and had the radio changed in one car. All went smoothly and all was right in minutes. No extra fees.

I think its bad enough having to pay for television, let alone pay for radio,
and from what I have heard from friends that have had it and decided they do not want it anymore, that it is almost impossible to cancel.

Did they specify that it was good for your lifetime? Or was it good for the lifetime of the radio?

Your lifetime subscription is for your lifetime, not the radio's. If your radio is playing the Preview channel, it probably just needs a refresh signal. If you go to your SiriusXM account, you can get a refresh signal there. If the radio isn't working at all, you can get a replacement online also. It is $75 plus tax, to transfer your lifetime service to a new radio.

I hate the fact that I have to re-negotiate the annual fee every time I renew. If I don't call them, they'll bill me a couple hundred $ a year. Since I called them and threatened to cancel, I pay the $5/month.

I do the same. Seems to be their bus model, β€œStick it to β€˜em, if they complain, back off.”

I was with them for 20 years. Now we don't drive too much so the car radio does not get much use. I got tired of negotiating a price increase every year. They finally offered me $5.00 a month, but with "fees and taxes" it came to $8.60 a month. I finally just cancelled. They email me every few days, offer me the same $5.00 plus fees etc. I just ignore them. We don't miss the service at all.

I skipped the whole thing by never using the Sirius my car radio is alleged to receive.
