AD 1934 - Adolf Schicklgruber became president of the Weimar Republic (GERMANY) following the death of then president Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg.
AD 1917 - A charity baseball game was held at the Polo Grounds in New York City, New York. The game was to benefit the military dependents of soldiers fighting in Europe during the First World War.
The visiting Cincinnati Redlegs ... managed by future Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson, Baseball’s Christian gentleman who never pitched on Sunday due to a promise to his mother to honor the Sabbath, yet he made no promise to his mother about managing ... beat the home team New York Giants ... managed by known drinker, smoker, curser and womanizer John Joseph McGraw ... by a score of 5-0.
Both managers ended up arrested and hauled before a judge for violation of blue laws.
BC 43 - Gaius Octavius Augustus Caesar is elected Roman Consul by the Roman Senate. Following his death, he was the first Roman Emperor to be declared a god.
Today is also the anniversary of the birth of Philo T. Farnsworth.

True.
He did briefly lead a coalition government which combined held a Reichstag majority, however.
I’m not endorsing that regime by any stretch, but the political landscape of 1926-1933 is incredible complex.
