Arabian Peninsula - UAE/Abu Dhabi - 52 - Potpourri and conclusion of Abu Dhabi segment
Besides the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which was very interesting, we visited a few other places in Abu Dhabi that were really quite forgettable. I am showing in this final set a couple of pictures from a rather unusual museum and a few with the views from the Wave Breaker Beach at Heritage Village to the skyline of Abu Dhabi. The Heritage Village itself was rather touristy and we also visited a large mall, but since I am not into malls, that did not mean much to me.
This is the end of the Abu Dhabi segment of the Arabian Peninsula trip, tomorrow we will commence the last segment with an in-depth look at the much more exciting city of Dubai, both in its modestly interesting modern form as well as its more ancient colorful and action-filled roots.
I look forward to your comments and questions and recommend viewing the downloads.

Nice selection of the “Tourist Attractions” Joe,
Not my favorite place —
Photo work excellent of course
Thanks

These were interesting and thanks for sharing.
I remember Abu Dhabi fromthe 70,s when there was nothing there but a few houses. The only hotel was the Al Alein Palace. Dubai was just alittle village on a creek again, the only hotel was The Carlton.
A fine tour. Thanks, Joe.

Thank you Barbara for steadfastly staying with me for the whole trip - your comments and input has been a great joy! Now we have one more place to go, starting in Dubai tomorrow, first a few modern sets and then the real ancient way of life around and on The Creek! Joe

Thank you Robert for looking in on these Tourist Attractions - definitely not my favorite places, but I felt I needed to do one set on this to cover the grounds.

Thank you very much Norm for looking in on my ongoing travelogue and your kind comment. I think this is the first time I see you commenting on this trip - did you manage to see the earlier posts in the Arabian Peninsula series, mainly from Oman. If not, I invite you to go back and have a peek at the earlier material, but you need plenty of time, as there are over 50 episodes already - and a few more coming. Easy to do, just click on my name (weberwest) behind my avatar, then click on the figure behind "# of topics posted", and the entire listing is there. Best to start at post #1, as there I give an introduction and present some maps.

Thank you Old Coot for looking in to my tour - this was my first time to Abu Dhabi, but I do remember Dubai and all of the other emirates from the early 80's - and yes, much has changed, these are much more glitzy but rather sterile places now, but to me, I still by far prefer the old pungent, busy and colorful places - we will have some of these coming up in the next 10 days as I cover in the last segment Dubai, first the modern and then the old colorful places - enjoy!
