Well Crap!!! I didn't know there was a list of rules. Dang it. I thought you created an image and either you liked it or didn't and the people that saw it either liked it or they didn't. Silly me! Either way I'd never post comments about someones work like some I've seen on this thread today. Open your mind up to new ideas and quit acting like you're 80 years old even if you are...

I hope you are not referring to my post which i see is the only one with a "list" because if you did, I believe you may have misread it.

The OP was asking about a certain photo and that was my reply, with supporting explanation why i came to such conclusion.

To be clear, my list are not rules. Those are principles that influence how an image would look if someone is creating a composite image. It was meant as a guide in constructing a realistic image.

The post is also not about creating an image i like or dislike. In my line of work i do both. I am paid for what i am requested to do.
As for whether others like it or not, that is beyond our control and really we should not bother to consider that unless it was a commissioned project or we are actually trying to please an or group of individuals.

I respect your restraint about posting with civility, hence my attempt to clarify mine. I have been blessed to make a living with art and hold it to a very high standard. That is why I abhor those who dilute its competence with lies, bull & greed and speak my heart out on such matters.

This is a collection of extremely WEIRD images. Rather than analyze them, I prefer to enjoy them. <snip>...

I was overseas during the height of the "flower-power" era- this is what I imagined California looked lie back then!

Now folks- If you really want to see "weird", Google Diane Arbus!

Ha ha exactly. Just enjoy them! You can zoom in and there are scenes within the scenes... Fun stuff.

Ha ha ha. CA still looks like that. They are definitely very SoCal & Western themed.

I do not buy into artists whose approach & styles need explanation. Not only that its all fake, having to write all that bull to justify it as an art means it is not art.

Ecurb is correct, a hell of a salesperson. Could probably sell the London Bridge.

Oh my! You would have fit right in with the establishment artists that rejected anything new and different.

I'm glad somebody with your views isn't in charge of deciding what's worthy of exhibiting in museums. How much poorer we would be in our experience of the wonders art has to offer....

In addition to the mixed shadow direction, the "people" are uncoordinated. Its a hodgepodge of people all doing different things, some coordinated. I think it's that mix that makes me uneasy viewing the image.

He didn't try to censor it he just said he didn't care for it. That is everyone's free choice is it not?

But you are criticizing him for expressing his opinion?

Art mimics life. What we could use in todays culture is more tolerance, toward one another, for freedom of speech, and opinions.

LOL.
Far from true.
Appreciation differs from one individual to the next and the point of having a museum is to showcase history and time. Hence there would always be a little bit of everything.

But it is a sad reality that;
Most modern art is an experiment with chaos rather than completion.
They dwell more on expressions rather than harmony.
Its a path of decadence now instead of mastery.
Where they strive to be heard instead of creating a beautiful masterpiece.

And because views/culture changed;
Although there is a big difference between new/different with gawdawfulaglee,
as there is a big difference between art and an attempt, sprinkled with bull to justify its existence and price,
many do not see those facade.

That aside, I would really want to exhibit one but i don't think many people would like to see a Hadron collider.

I’ve looked at “The Extras” a number of times today. I really do think it’s a cool and interesting photo but the grammar police in me still cringes at the misuse of the apostrophes and would absolutely prevent me from hanging it. (I’m pretty sure the photographer didn’t print the signs but still .....)

I did not say nor imply anything about censorship. And my reaction was based on other comments he has made, as when he said he viewed a Van Gogh as “trash”. I’m not “criticizing him for expressing his opinion”. I’m criticizing his viewpoint. Am I not allowed to do that in this forum?

(I'm posting the link, not the photograph, because I did not take it and do not have permission from the photographer to use it.)
There is something about it that I just can't put my finger on. To me, it looks unrealistic. I'm not talking about the scene or other "content" but the "qualities" of the image. I don't know how to describe it--like the difference between the photo of a building and the "artist's rendering." In a way, it seems almost like a drawing than a photograph.
How would one go about achieving this "effect," if that's what it is?
Does anyone see what I mean, or is it just my imagination?
Take a look at this photograph: "The Extras, ... (show quote)

I personally don't care for this type of "photograph" at all. It looks like a cut and paste of images to create a look and message about something. Not to my liking.

I guess you don't like Pablo Picasso's Cubism or Vincent van Gogh's art either.

As I watch the seventh image render, my question is why does "check's cashed" have an apostrophe?

A statement based on what facts? I don't care for this photograph. This is no Picasso. Don't jump to conclusions.

But of course.

Thanks for clarifying.
