Darkroom

I have twice tried to download Darkroom.
On each occasion it has downloaded in a foreign language.
By chance I have recognized, and actually am mildly proficient in that language(Hebrew), but not nearly good enough to learn a new PP system, which will be hard enough in English.
The first time I tried to contact someone at DR but because it is an open platform I couldn't get to anyone.
Anyone have any ideas? How did DR know I knew Hebrew--very spooky!!!

I am not familiar with the software, but a quick search provided a link to this:
https://www.darkroomsoftware.com/pricing/

For that amount you would think the customer support would be pretty quick to resolve any issue. As for the language issue, I checked out the website and didn't see any downloads specific to a language.

I used your web link and downloaded for iPad. It only runs in Portrait mode and my preferred mode is Landscape, so I’ll be deleting.

That was my best guess from what the OP stated, I have no idea what the software is, so you are free to do whatever you like.

My sincere apologies to everyone.
I meant "Darktable".

Sorry for all the confusion.
I guess my Hebrew isn't as good as I thought.

I am assuming you are using Windows? If not please let us know to better help.

Also, most developers for darktable hang out in the Pixls forum. You can post your issue there and will get a response from someone that works in the code and not some random customer support person.

Here is the forum:

So I found this on the darktable website. I think this is cross platform for language localization (not saying you have Hebrew set), but it's a start.

I have started darktable and its user interface is Finnish/Italian/Urdu/etc. How can I change the language of the user interface to English?
By default darktable uses your operating system’s language and if a localization is available in that language it will start using that localization for the user interface. You can override that and switch to an English user interface in multiple ways:

You can launch darktable using the command line darkable --conf ui_last/gui_language=C
You can change the darktable shortcut at the Start Menu and append --conf ui_last/gui_language=C to the Target field
You can change this setting in the configuration file itself.
Open with an editor the configuration file of darktable
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\darktable\darktablerc, find the line ui_last/gui_language= and modify it to ui_last/gui_language=C. Please use a text editor which can handle Unix line endings, like Notepad++ or similar

If you download and set (install) it from one of the "open source" websites, you'll get it in English, and, it will do both portrait and landscape files. Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVxHNxYwINY for the info on downloading and installation.

Read one post above yours. Straight from the darktable documentation, all languages are in the build, and it goes off of the system's language or localization.

thanks to all.
I seemed to have resolved the problem---I simply removed Hebrew from my computer list of languages I wanted to use and this time it installed in English.
As I guessed, even in English I am having a hard learning curve---solve one problem, there's always another.

Glad it worked out.

Darktable is not a program for the faint of heart, that is for sure. But if you stick with it you will quickly realize how much control and flexibility you have with all of the options available.

Check out Bruce Williams on Youtube. He has a very large catalog of darktable tutorials. They are a bit long, but he usually explains one module per episode and goes into great detail:

Also, as a kind of "module starter pack" here is what I typically use as my base style. I have several custom presets for most of these, so it's easy to make into a one-click operation if needed:

- Lens correction
- Base Curve (For Canon , I set mine to EOS like) OR Filmic RGB
- Sharpen (my own custom preset)
- Local Contrast (use bilateral filter)
- Contrast Equalizer (if I need more fine tuning (e.g. "Clarity"))
- Brightness and Saturation (for minor saturation only)
- Haze Removal
