This question is for those that use lightroom to crop for real estate MLS jobs... I have been using the same system for ages, in that I set the crop for a 4:3 aspect ratio, then export, then file settings; limit file size , I put in 750ppi, image size; click box, resize to fit, select dimensions, & type in 640x480pixels.. then export.. the images come out at around 300KB, and clear.. I just did a shoot and sent this procedure out to my real estate agent and he told me it was coming out blurry or low res... BTW, I e-mail them ....My agent says it looks good in the email but low res in the MLS>. Frankly I have never had this problem before.. I finally sent him high res images and he resized them himself successfully.. I am confused as to why they are low res. when previously it was ok... HELP>.

The email is a reasonable suspicion. Not sharing the image files leaves all of us to guess given we have nothing more than your description to go from. We also can't see what the agent did after receiving the images. You might ask the agent to email back to you the image file versions that looked 'low res' so you might confirm the files were changed from what you'd sent the agent initially. You might compare your last 'good' files, looking at the file parameters via the OS properties vs these recent files, to see of you can detect any differences. If you're not using an Export Preset, you leave yourself open to inconsistencies that could instead be performed consistently always via the preset parameters.

Exactly. Image compression to save message and storage size is all over the place. I would get a Dropbox Professional account and set up shared folders for each Agent you do work for.

What you sent may have been fine.
My phone has an option to reduce the size or send original when I send from it.
The method (program) that is used to add the image to the MLS may reduce the image size also.
Example: the viewing thumbnail here is a reduced size.....
A check of what he downloaded from you should help shed some light on the problem.

I have my suspicions about how he used his MLS program.. He said the images looked sharp from the e-mail.. but once he put it into the MLS program he said it was low res..

... ergo size reduction to the MLS.

I wonder if sending 45 (4:3 ratio @ 640px 480) caused the e-mail to make a lower resolution to fit them all in ..?

I have not had any trouble with file size being around 300KB

I do know that In LR, I have to use the 4:3 aspect ratio.. then I crop... Perhaps I am not exporting it correctly.. ?

How do you resize in LR and how do you export?

Quickly looking at the submission requirements, they seem to require files that are smaller than 5mb and image dimensions no larger than 2000x1500 (4:3). I'd just plug in those parameters into a Lightroom Export preset and save it as MLS, and kiss your problems goodbye! Oh, and lock a 4:3 crop ratio on the crop tool. A 640x480 image is .3 mp, and would not be enough to make a good-looking crisp image, for anything other than small thumbnail images.

I agree CL. The problem is his program.

Yeah, I’m a little confused about your sizing. At 750ppi your 640x480 pixel image would be less than a square inch. Displaying at 1:1 on most computers would only give you an image that covers a little over 1/4 of the display. If the MLS software displays anything larger than that it will be blurry and pixelated.
