Dr. Marley--

As soon as I can lose a little more weight, I am going to have knee replacement surgery. It will be robot-assisted. About 75 minutes start to finish. 125mm (or so) incision. Go home that afternoon or maybe the next morning. Released to drive in 4-5 weeks (might be a little optimistic...it's my right knee).

I get the idea that folks here would likely think I should have it done the "old-fashioned" way, just so the surgeon has to do the work I'm paying him to do. Three hours or more of surgery. Multiple days in the hospital (around all those sick people). Really big incision. Long recovery.

Glad thy aren't my doctor.
Dr. Marley-- br br As soon as I can lose a little... (show quote)

Given your typical posts, no surprise here that you'd just buy a new knee.

Why are we even discussing this. We all shoot in the mode we like. But God forbid that I might learn something new.

Because it seems that there is a kind of virtue signalling going on in forums like this that says "I am a REAL photographer because I shoot all manual and RAW and I process every photo with XXX software". You can frighten off beginners that way. And a reality check says "Why buy a machine that does all that stuff only to brag that you don't use it?"

Cat, it was me you questioned, and I never said or insinuated this. The op asked a question "how would you shoot this" and I answered what I might do. You will NEVER find where I have ever said anything like this. I have always said to each his own, we all have our own way of shooting!

In addition it seems everyone takes everything said PERSONALLY. My remarks are not directed at any one person, but at a theme, often only faintly realized, but there nonetheless. And the theme, of the camera/photo aficionados is this tech oneupsmanship. "Mine is better/bigger/more-pixels/RAW processed/non-auto than yours". Heck, maybe it is just a "guy" thing, and I'm not a guy!

It's not a man thing. Sometimes things can be misconstrued in written text. Its without the human expression and emotion. I'm soory if you think I took it wrong. But you did ask me to explain, then right after that came the "blame response" at least that is what it looked like...

It's all good. Just take photos and enjoy!

In shooting in Florida wetlands birds commonly fly from shadows to sunlight back to shadows, in manual you would be wrong either one time or two. Sorry, manual is not ALWAYS the right way to go.

...I concur, Dr. Bill. Lots of times, shooting pageantry on a cloudy day, I'd be SOL shooting all manual. At night, with stadium lighting, that's another story...consistent equals M in that situation. I like aperture priority, however, and usually have some shutter leeway to give, but am usually wide open and don't want anything else.

I understand what you're saying but when I shot bif I used all manual, yes including ss ISO A wb etc... I set my ss to the max and my ISO usually around 2000 to 4000 depending on how bright/dark my subject is as well as which direction they fly into or out of. I have posted some of my bif on here several months ago that proved my point.
