Can’t help you with the TC question, but I can suggest that you ignore KR’s suggestions about pretty much anything related to photography. I have been a photographer for 50yrs and find much of what he suggests/recommends to be shallow, superficial, wildly subjective and too often useless. Especially his equipment recommendations which often take on a troll-like contrary position.
While i always consider myself to be my most “trusted” reviewer, I do understand the need and usefulness for folks to seek out advice From actual users on equipment choices, etc and I do that as well for previewing equipment I might be considering. But there are numerous pro reviewers online (among them Steve Perry on this site) who I respect and whose opinions I often agree with and who post equipment reviews and photo “how to’s” that are useful and not intentionally designed to simply be contrary or trolling. I urge you to read these folks rather than a guy who deals with clickbait.
According to this chart, the 300 mm 4.5 takes the 14B as long as it is not type K.
I used to own many AI and AIS Nikon telephoto lenses and they all took the 14B.
My experience with teleconverters focused on Canon but I think what I’m about to say is generic to all teleconverters.
I found with my 2x teleconverter is that the aperture doubles as well. So your f/4.5 means f/9 with the 2x teleconverter. That’s the widest you will be able to shoot at. It restricts low light exposures.
is this the same lens authorizeduser is referring to, 300 f4 ais manual focus ??
no kidding. i was asking pixel if the lens he <-- was referring to was the same as the OP <--.
pixel gives a link for a 300 f/4 af-s. OP is asking about a 300 f/4.5 ais manual.
