Excellent. Thanks for the camera settings info. If the coastal sky at night ever clears, I will attempt some captures.

Was pretty happy with the timing of this comet photo. I haven't determined if
it was a shooting star, or a satellite that adjusted it's solar panels at just the right time.
Anywho, I'll take it!

Shawano Lake - Shawano,WI
Single shot - Nikon D750 RAW 14 bit, ISO 1600 f/2.8 @ 200mm 8 seconds.
Light crop and light edit, used tungsten for the white balance which I
like for night shots.

I spent many summer vacations on that lake. Never saw anything like that but caught a lot of fish, horse back riding, roller skating, swimming and water skiing.

Awesome photo!!! I’m jealous! I spent a lot of time with comet Hale Bopp & Hyukatakie ( sp?) back in the film days.

I’m now inspired...

Most excellent photo!!!

Exactly what date and time did you get that incredible shot? I'm pretty sure if I know that, I can identify the culprit.

According to Starry Night Pro, a satellite named ISIS-1 passed through the tail in about that spot about 9:17pm CST on 7/19, and the ISS was a very near miss a few seconds after 9:00pm CST on the 18th.

Excellent. It might have been an Iridium flare.
