Something just occurred to me. I've had to replace three Apple keyboards, plus one that I dropped. Various keys stopped working, and I was unable to get them going again. I don't use my macs nearly as much as my Windows computers, and I've never had a Windows keyboard malfunction. and I go back to the first home computers sold by IBM.
That reminds me of an IBM product intro I went to years ago. It was probably for their PS2 line. One of the IBM guys knocked a keyboard off its stand, and when it hit the floor, all the key caps went flying. It was quite a sight.
I have 3 Macs and never had a problem, I really like the styling of the Mac keyboards.
I, too, have had two iMacs over the past 15 years, and never a problem here. Of course, I choose the wired keyboard. The 'wireless' one was constantly a problem.
Jerry, on one occasion, I plugged an old PC keyboard into my iMac and it worked just fine. Wouldn't that work for you too?

Yes, I prefer wired Macs to wireless. I like the large keyboard with the numeric keypad. I thought of using a Windows keyboard, but the Command/Control conversion seemed like a nuisance.

I've had Macs for 27 years and have NEVER had a problem. Maybe you shouldn't be drinking martinis while your on the computer, Jerry. LOL
We have had six Macs, in all over time and all heavily used, with never one problem with a keyboard. Are you swatting flies with them, Jerry?

Guinness, not martinis. I thought Mac keyboards were waterproof.

The small wireless one is perfect for swatting flies, mosquitoes, spiders - anything.
What's happened with my keyboards is one key would stop working, and from what I read, that's the end of it.
I will put in my 2 cents regarding Mac keyboards. I have used Macs going back to the SE 30 along with a few Windows machines. I always loved the Mac keyboards until my MacBook Pro (2017) which apparently has a reputation for temperamental behavior. It seems that mine likes to show "bb" when I click on the B key. Also, often when typing a word, some of the letters in that word jump to another location in the paragraph.
These anomalies are well-documented by others on help sites online. I have tried all the various hacks suggested, but the problems continue. I guess it will have to go back to Apple for repair.
BTW, it took me five corrections on this post to correct the problems discussed.

I've had an APPLE II+, and APPLE IIe, an APPLE MAC CLASSIC, and APPLE 6116, an APPLE eMac, an APPLE iMAC, and two APPLE MACBOOKS and have never had a keyboard issue.
I've never dropped one, I did share an adult beverage with one about 30 years back, but never a failure.
My only disappointment with iMac keyboards, and I'll address my comments to the wireless one, are (a) signal gets lost occasionally and (b) no numeric keypad. Give me a wired one WITH numeric keypad, and I'm totally happy.
Now I have to point out that I dearly love the wireless 'mouse'. Not because it's wireless, but because I can 'scratch' the cursor up and down easily, so I do that all the time. Now the downside. The one that came with my iMac (a little more than a year old) came with a mouse with rechargeable battery in it. Problem? Yes, if in the middle of writing a test I see a warning RECHARGE NOW. No ... I always save my prior 'stuff', and that included a wireless mouse that uses regular AA batteries. Problem Solved.

Apple now has a wireless with number keypad option.

My most memorable keyboard experience was the day I decided to vacuum a Dell keyboard. I wish I had a photo of the keys flying off the keyboard up the vacuum hose in a ”tornadic” spiral fashion. Can you say stupid? Amazing how hard it is to reattach keys to a dell laptop. 😡

Do you spank the grand kids with your Apple keyboard ??? I find they are perfect for that. But you need the wireless one for that.
