I once ( in my younger careless days) shot a squirrel, but didn’t quite kill it. I picked up the little guy and held it on it’s back. It’s little front paws were pawing at the air looking me in the eyes and gasping for breath. Then slowly stoped grasping for life, took one last deep breath and died. That moment has been with me since. If no one found it after all these years, I guess my rifle is where I dropped it
They can be somewhat entertaining on occasion.

Six of these guys around our yard. They even climb the metal shepherds crook that I covered with vaseline. How do you keep them away from the bird food?
Our bird feeders hang from an elevated wire. One end connects to the deck, providing access for the squirrels.
I ran a hose from the spigot to the deck railing. A garden spray gun is on the end and aimed at the bird feeders.
Water flow is controlled by an electric fluid valve, connected to a remote control.
We sit in the living room. When a squirrel is on the wire we push the remote control button and a stream of water hits the squirrel. The can’t get out of there fast enough.
The squirrels learned to avoid the feeders. See the short video.
