I don’t typically sell my photos and I’m not looking to start doing so in any meaningful way now. But, I posted this image on a community FB group and, in just a few hours, I’ve had 15 requests for prints. I’m curious to know what those of you who do sell prints typically charge. I’m thinking of offering unmounted 8x10s and 11x14s.
Thanks in advance.
Consider Fine Art America, they handle the whole process of selling and collecting, you may have to collect taxes when you sell your prints yourself and file tax reports, check it out first!

You might want to test the waters. All of those suggestions are good money but only if you can get it. If you over price your 15 may become 5. Maybe poll a few and make some suggestions and see what they will bear.
I do my own printing so I don’t charge quite as much.
Also, consider packaging. Get clear bags and card board backing. This of course will add to your cost.

For me, I had rather have 5 paying me a total of $400 as to having 15 paying me a total of $400.

Depends. Are these local folks? Do they know you? Have you ever sold anything in photography. Your print is nice but not outstanding.
Since you are new at this, when you price something like this photo for more than $70.00, folks are going to nicely back away with a 1000 excuses.
My suggestion, if your 8X10 costs $12.00, then change double for it or $24.00. Same with the 11X14.
It really is your decision, but from my experience, once you get a certain price, especially photo prints, folks start to decline.
I would not mail out, unless you want to. It costs for bubble mailers and the cost of mailing too.
You may have opened a can of worms by doing all of this, good luck.
The first sentence of your post makes it sound like you do not want to set up a business, I suggest you pick a service to do the printing, packaging, mailing, collecting, and accounting (collecting and remitting any taxes), you may not make as much but it is less work for you! I use Fine Art America, I believe Smugmug does the same on one of their levels and I'm sure if you search you can find others.

You have to consider more than what the print costs in coming up with a sales price. You have to consider use of your equipment, travel to and from the site where the image was taken, post processing time, and don't forget artistic value.! The problem that most non-professional photographer's have in pricing their work is under-valuing. If you're just starting out, $75 for a mounted 8x10 and $140 for a mounted 11x14 is reasonable. As you build a reputation, you can adjust upward.
I would just give them away for the cost of printing and if it's family, I'd even pay for the printing.
I am simply flattered when someone wants something I've created.

I think from his statement that he's just looking for some sort of guide to pricing for "friends." I don't know about other states, but in Texas, if you are selling something incidentally, and have no plans to establish a business, there is no sales tax consideration. As to pricing, I usually get $10 per running foot for common photo paper, and $15 for exotic papers. I use the long side to calculate, and round anything up to next foot. Thus, an 8X10: $10; 11X14: $20. Hope this helps. I understand that this seems a bit under-priced, but don't look for much more. Mommy and granny might pay more; probably not many others.

You’re right, I don’t. I now have more than 30 requests and that’s probably more than I want to fulfill directly. I’ve spent some time on fine art’s website and am considering them.

They’re all members of a local community FB page for Ocean City NJ. That doesn’t mean they are necessarily local and they are not personal friends. I suspect you’re right that most of them are not prepared to pay that much for an unmounted print. Of course, as someone else said, it’s easier to sell 5 prints at $75 than 15 at $25. I now have over 30 requests and am considering using a service that can print and directly fulfill the orders. I’m going to take a look at their pricing.

Take a look at my offerings, I set my own commission, they add the cost of production and the customer pays, incidentally I received a gift of unmounted prints from them, it coast more to frame them than if they had been ordered framed so that is a bonus if your customer wants the print framed.
