Olympus question

I'm a Nikon shooter but use a Olympus TG-5 at times. It's mounted to my broadcast TV camera so I can quickly grab a still for social media posting. I work deep nights and one of the things I use a lot is composite mode, especially for lightning pics. Recently I learned Olympus OM-D cameras have that capability as well.

I would like to up my game on composites but have no desire to leave my Nikons behind. So you Olympus experts I'm looking for a body and lens I can pick up used/refirb that's fairly inexpensive. Since I'll be shooting off a tripod I don't really need VR or auto focus. I would like a field of view approximately 24-70mm in the full frame world. Opinions please.

Terry

I think Olympus is one of the few companies with live composite. I’ll bet you could pick up a used or refurbished Mark 5 II and lens for a fairly reasonable price.

Refurbished EM10 mkII is now $429 with 14-42 mm at the Olympus site and the camera has 'live composite.'

Oly shooter here. I’d go for a used OMD EM5mii. They are weather resistant. Add one of the lenses that is also weather resistant and wide. The MU-43 forum I has a great used camera section.

Your TG-5 is capable of Live Composite photography. The lens covers 25-100 mm.
Most modern Olympus bodies are capable of Live Composite, the OM-10 Mk II has been mentioned. I use that camera with a 12-40 f2.8 Pro lens. Perhaps this is what you are looking for.
If not new the prices in the second hand market are very reasonable. The little camera is very capable and the lens of excellent optical quality.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the OM-D cameras. I started with an EM10 Mark III and now also own an EM1 Mark II. I also have Nikons which I find difficult to give up, but the lighter weight and amazing things the EM1 does has me thinking. The EM1 does in camera focus stacking, has various bracketing features (you can even bracket the Art Mode) and the firmware can be upgraded to have the ProCapture mode. I also like the articulating screen of the EM1 which the EM10 does not have. I just started to experiment with the ProCapture mode for wildlife- very interesting. The EM10s have the smallest bodies of the line- not too much larger than the Tough TG-6.

Olympus just announced that they are selling their camera business to a venture capital group. This may not be good for those wanting to stick with Olympus equipment. Be aware of future events.

Sounds like a proactive management decision to bring in partners who can better utilize their technology to market the products more successfully. They also refer to their "corporate overhead" which means that the company realizes that they have a bloated bureaucracy and this is one way for them to fight it. I do not see anything negative to the brand with this statement. In fact they show the decision to move in the right direction is just starting!

I agree. Oly user here and the previous recommendations confirm good choices. I have a EM10 mk iii but if for the intended use I’d look at the 5/ii.
