I bought the Tammy 150-600 last year and hand-held it for a week of daily airshows. Got heavy, but I got some great pics. Got an a99ii this past weekend. I've only tried a few snaps with the big lens attached, though. I've tried to use a tripod or monopod, but I kept tripping over myself when planes zoomed past.

I've got that lens. It's excellent.

I was a little leery of spending so much on a lens but I am beyond thrilled with the images I've gotten so far!

It does get heavy, doesn't it?!?! lol The first few times I took it out were for short little walks but went for a long 3hr hike last weekend and that's when I felt its weight! I am now searching for a strap or sling to to use when I'm out for extended periods of time. But I can't complain about the image quality

I have a vest with straps. I replaced the big neck strap with two smaller straps with clips that attach to the vest. It just hangs there until you need it. The vest REALLY saves me from getting a neck/back ache when walking around for a long time. Here is the best pic I took at Oshkosh last year. It was picked at Picture of the Week for an online aviation newsletter, Taken at 150 mm right in front of me. There were about 23 Mustangs all in a row and this is before they took off for the fly-bys.

WOW - what a nice capture. Excellent.
What are you using for a vest?

Thanks for the comment. I kind of wished that I had put on a wider-angle lens, but it still came out pretty nice. I have an assortment of other 'plane pics' in my FB albums...some I still really need to add to if I stop being lazy.

Took me a sec to find it...it's from OP/TECH. Kind of looks like a padded horse collar that goes around the neck with 2 straps that run down the back and around the arms, then snaps closed in the front (if you want). You replace the camera strap with short strips that have clips at the end which attach to mates on the vest. You can attach up to 2 cameras at a time (but I've never tried that). I'll see if I can find a link. This looks like the one. http://www.ebay.com/i/372642641894?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-213727-13078-0&mkcid=2&itemid=372642641894&targetid=4580771607727094&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=&poi=&campaignid=395665090&mkgroupid=1234751768217321&rlsatarget=pla-4580771607727094&abcId=1129776&merchantid=51291&msclkid=c8e75d89b95c1448608d036796bef710

Just noticed your screen name. At one time years ago my cousin made fiddles when he was temporarily laid off. He recently retired from Taylor Guitars in southern CA, where he worked in every capacity for over 30 yrs.
