Label Software for Mac?

I like to make my own business cards using a Mac software package called "Discus". It did everything I wanted, came with all sorts of graphics and fonts. While not perfect it served me well for years. However, with Apple moving to the new OS Catalina, it stopped working and the author has no intention of updating it. His claim, which may well be correct, is that Apple really didn't need to do this and did it more to screw over some smaller companies than anything else.

I have looked high and low for a replacement. I do not want anything that is tied to a subscription service. I have tired some of the 'online' stuff out there from people like Avery but have not been that impressed.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a package that will work on my Mac, not iOS and is not tied to a subscription?

Thanks,
Ron

Don't know how fancy you want to make your business cards, but I have used Photoshop to make business cards from scratch for many years. Plenty of fonts and you can add photo/art of your choosing and size it all for business cards.

It's a shame that we lose so much software when an OS is updated. That's happened to me, too. What's even worse is when hardware doesn't work, like the big Canon 9900 printer not working with Windows 10.

It is a conspiracy. Support obsolescence for the good of the economy.

I have tried the Avery templates. They work but on more than one occasion, I have had something go wrong when printing resulting in a lost job.

It is for this reason, I would really like to find a package I own not rent or access on line.

Photoshop is fine if you like it. I gave up on their suite of products when they went the subscription route and have found 'work arounds' that, for me, are just as good. However, none of my images are ever going to appear on the side of a bus or any publication so I do not need its 'power'.

Are these cards you are making in very small batches, i.e. just a few at a time? If not, your best bang for the buck may be to just use Vistaprint... they are always running a special on business cards.

Small batches and they tend to change if there is an address or phone change which can happen from time to time. A commercial print shop would require me to order far more than I would need.

Take your Mac back to the Apple store and have them reinstall the old operating system. I've learned that when my Mac was giving me problems, I had brought my Mac desktop in and they asked, "Do you remember what version OS it was running?" They actually have most of the recent Mac OS in their possession that they can download for free. Hope that helps.

Thanks for this, the reason I am a bit reluctant to do that is security updates. I want the latest and I am not sure if I go back one level of OS I will get what I need.

What bugs me is the fact that Apple seems to have moved to a system that eliminates some software for no real reason. Maybe someone could tell me why they felt the need to go from 32 to 64 bit.

I have used Apple products for years but am not a 'fanboy'. Some of the things like reducing the number of ports on their machines so that you now need dongles out the ying Yang to connect makes no sense to me on a 'portable laptop'. End of rant.

I have a downloaded version of the Avery software on my Mac, so I don’t have to use their online tools. You can also use Avery templates in Word and Excel. I should also mention I have not yet done the Mac OS upgrade.

There often are templates in productivity software like MS Word. Here's a link to some templates for Apache Open Office. Open Office is a free office productivity suite that reads and writes MS Office documents.

Any word processing program should be able to do this easily. WodPerfect has a whole label-making menu that ties into Avery and 3-M sized labels, including business cards. Avery has free software that ties into all of their products.

I have both a MacBook Pro and an iMac. The iMac I did not upgrade and left as 32 bit. However I still get periodic security updates so I am happy to leave it as such and run older 32 bit software Apps on it.
