I need a new photo printer

I have used an Epson Artisan 1430 for several years and was happy with it but it has now gone into serious decline - it no longer prints colour anywhere near what it is supposed to be based on colour print charts.

My monitor is calibrated and I use calibration photo paper etc etc.

I'm looking for a good quality home photo printer. I've looked at the semi-pro CanonPro 10's and 100's but they are too large for my use - and probably overkill.

I've ended up thinking about the Canon Pixma TS8560 or the TS9160. Unfortunately Canon don't really say what the difference between them is or anything useful at all really beyond glossy advertisements and I've tried contacting Canon but no answer so far.

I want a printer that will reproduce my insect macro shots so that I can catalogue them for reference. The reproducibility has to be good enough so I can go through my references and agree/disagree on identity. I'm not after something that will display for a studio, I'm not interested in 'snapshots' , I am an amateur scientist who wants good realistic photo reproducibility and not from a 70kg printer.

Does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts?

Thank you and keep safe

Cindy

Look for an Epson printer that comes within your budget.

Of coarse, you could always use the advice offered by 'Foathog'.

Epson expression photo hd xp-150000 is the direct replacement for the Epson 1430. It is under 20 pounds and is “30% percent smaller then it’s predecessor” although there is no context to that statement.

I presume you have gone online and searched the issue and also verified this is not a software issue.

I am no expert but in my experience I have found that when colours are printing 'off', I have discovered that for some reason my calibration has been changed in the printer properties. I use an Epson Photo 1400 which is the model previous to the Artisan. I always use Epson ink and every time I move my monitors even just a smidge, I need to recalibrate. The room I use is highly susceptible to major light change throughout the seasons making it necessary to check the print properties for the correct calibration profile. This printer is still printing beautiful photos for my wall. You may also have a bad ink cartridge. Flaws happen! My 2 cents! Good luck!

I have the ts9120 which is the USA version of the ts9160. I think this is your best choice . I needed a new printer and did some extensive research and this is the one that made the most sense for and my needs. You won't be disappointed. Hope this helps.......Tom

I'm not sure about the photo quality, but I love my Epson ET-2760 tank printer. It prints double-sided easily, and the ink cost is extremely low. I bought all four ink bottles for $64, and those are bottles of ink, not tiny cartridges.

Not sure how Particular you may be concerning Photo-printing, but myself, I find it much easier to take my Card to my Walgreens store or Costco, etc. I can even do it from home online. Order Prints 4x6, 5x7,8x10, never ordered anything larger. For myself, I have been very satisfied with what I recieved.

Hunt's camera has some Canon Pro 10 printer with a good rebate. The printer is no longer in production, but it is an excellent printer. I have used mine for many years. Check it out. https://www.huntsphotoandvideo.com

Have you run a nozzle check and an alignment check?
