Due to the Coronavirus, these centers are shutdown. How do you get a lens repaired that is under warranty? Does anyone know when the centers will reopen?
Maybe Nikon can shed some light.
Unfortunately nobody knows. I guess it is all in the hands of local authorities to make a judgement of when the lockdown will end. It is sad that the pandemic is not over and so many people in groups out there without using a mask.
Be patient, your warranty will be honored by Nikon even if it is near its end or just past while we are still under preventive measures.

Check with the Governor of your state.
There are a lot of businesses shut down. There was a guy on UHH in Colorado that did or does repair work. You might search him out.

The UHH member is rjriggins11. I sent a D750 with a broken shutter and he repaired it quickly and at a lower price than Nikon.

And pretty sure sending it out to a non authorized repair facility will void any warranty should you need further repairs done by Nikon. As with most high end equipment the manufacturer can tell if it's been opened by others. I would think Nikon keeps records of past repairs.
All you can do is wait - and buy another lens. You know you want one.
Ask for a replacement. As they can't repair it.
Nikon might be able to do a refurbished exchange for the old item if you have all of the original docs and packaging. Check with a local Nikon dealer as they might have more info from Nikon.

If you can wait you could always rent the equivalent lens and use it for a while or for how long you need it until the center's open
