Even the cheap knock offs are "robust' enough to carry the weight of anyone's setup.
The difference is the fit and finish...and smoothness of the gimbal.

I don't understand this "However, ever since getting a Sigma Sport 150-600 I hardly ever use it any more. I find myself shooting at 1/500 or shorter on most of my images". Wouldn't shooting at a slower shutter speed be even more reason to have support with such a long lens?

Gene51 did not say *slower shutter speed." He said "shorter," meaning faster.

Can anyone recommend one of these that will be robust enough to handle a D850 plus Sigma 150-600mm, fit a Manfrotto tripod and not break the bank?

Since the tripod collars on ALL the 150/200-500/600 lenses are severely compromised, I recommend using a stabilizing bracket when using on a tripod or gimbal. - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Telephoto-Long-Lens-Support-Holder-Bracket-Quick-Release-Plate-For-Arca-Standard/383144170435?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l9372

i use a 300 2.8 and I am using a Manfro 502 video fluid head when on a tripod for following action along with the above bracket.

I've been using the Induro GBH2 Gimbel for three years, and it will support my D750 and 200-500 f/5.6 with no problems whatsoever. I also own the Manfrotto 393, but prefer the Induro. The Induro is also out there under a couple of other brand names, but it's far less expensive than Wimberly and some others.

As for the machineability of urethane causing ripping and tearing of the material if it is softer than A95 there's a simple solution; freeze it in dry ice. Works like a charm. You might have to re-freeze as the cutting warms it up but that shouldn't affect it dimensionally. If you're worried about that then cut all dimensions to, say, .010" (.25 mm) oversize, refreeze and finish. Frozen to -100 degrees F it machines like aluminum.

Predictable set of responses, given that this tends to be a US based website.

There are folks in other countries who don't necessarily, thank goodness, think that what comes from the USA is "best on the market".

Yes, if "made in USA" really is best ..... but knowledge, know how, experience, and the ability to simply be prepared to search outside my own country to find "best overall value" tells me otherwise !

That's a MONOPOD head and not meant for a tripod. I own one of these and find it very handy on my monopod with a 400/2.8. I also own a full size Wimberely. Best of luck.

I agree. many other countries excel at build quality. Give me Germany or Japan...anyday.
Stereo equipment ... Danish Germany, Japan, UK imo...

Btw... have you ever looked at the Optic Chair made in the UK ... looks interesting.

On ebay now Manfrotto 393 Telephoto lens support. I have this setup and it works well for my 7Dll with 70-300mm lens and 5oomm lens.

I also have the Induro and I like it a lot.
I have an extra arca plate on the tripod lens foot.

This guy makes his own, has been doing it successfully for years in his own garage (I've been there, met him, even purchased from him) and he's quite content to "post abroad".

And there have even been UHH US customers who have bought and been happy with something "made in England" ......chuckle, chuckle !!

No need to lash out lots of cash buying from "the big boys" that many US UHH folk will recommend.

I've used the RH2 for over six years with my D800e & D850 and two heavy lenses - it's strong enough to hold any camera / lens combo. I've seen many gimbals and have tried many to compare and the only gimbal that's as good and possibly better is the $600 Wimberly.
