I am always leery when attaching an old lens to my D800. I found this old perspective control lens which is totally manual. Will I damage my D800 if I use it with this lens??
Thanks,

Check your user’s manual, under “Compatible Lenses.”

It will not damage your camera.

Be really careful the first time you mount the lens to the camera. Make absolutely certain that the lens does not clash with the "Aperture Interface Ring" located adjacent to the lens mount on your camera. It is easily broken when attempts are made to mount certain certain older lenses to your camera. The statement about every Nikon lens being compatible with your camera is simply not true. I speak from experience after discovering damage in a used camera before I learned what to look for. If you break the AI ring or the internal components, the repair is quite expensive and not covered by warranty.

Some lenses have a pin that have to be removed before they can be used. I've forgotten which ones they are, however. Once the pin is removed, however, they can be used. However, you can't just stick a vintage lens on your camera and expect them to work (aperture & shutter speed). There is a procedure for matching the lens to the camera. Check your manual or a book written for your D800. I've done it myself.

According Ken Rockwell the lens has no coupling whatsoever so it won't damage the camera.

I was informed years ago that it mounts properly in a neutral position but it may collide with parts of body in extreme circumstances

I own both the 35 and 28 shift lenses and both mount without touching the aperture tab on my D810. Just make sure the aperture ring and tab don't come in contact with the lens mount. There are several different year models that might possibly differ.

Works fine on my D810. I have the 45mm PC lens.

I have both the 28 PC and 35 PC Nikkor lenses and use them on my Nikon D800E. No problemo.

If the lens mounts easily, then no problem. Some pre-ais lenses won't mount easily, they will feel tight, don't force them on.

There's a problem with old lenses. And it's fixable. I had four old Nikkor lenses converted that my wife had from the late 60s/early 70s. The old lenses have a metal ridge that makes it impossible to mount, or will even damage your body.
John White does an outstanding job of converting lenses. He also explains what's needed depending on the lens. I'm not sure the website will survive here but you can google Nikon lens conversion john white.

I have an old 55 mm Nikon micro lens that can close focus to about 6" from the "film plane" It had the bayonet mount that would not fit any of the new Nikon camera bodies. Took it to a local camera shop (a rarity in itself) and they were able to have it machined so that it now fits my 5500 body. No communication between lens and camera so focus and aperture need to be set manually. Still takes great close up images though. Cost me $30 to get it converted. So much is possible if you can find the right connection.

The OP’s lens is the AiS version, no modification needed.
