I've been photographing the repair of our basement for the last week. I would like to put it all together in some kind of automated slide show. I might give it an audio narration, or I might just use text to describe the various steps. Should I adapt some video editing program to do it, or is there something simpler dedicated to still photographs? Any recommendations? Thanks.
I have been making slideshows for our recorded church worship services. I use the slideshow function in Lightroom. It takes a little bit of learning, but after the first show it is easy enough and does a pretty good job.
Open Office contains a "PowerPoint" system. It is quite good and FREE.

If you have some stills and want to create a slide show, a freebie Irfanview works very well.
Mac users may want to check out Thorsten Lemke's excellent Graphic Converter 11, a program that has been in development since 1992 (Shareware to try, $40 or €35 to license).
It has a "slide show" function that I would NOT use for a formal presentation, but I do use it for image review and editing purposes. It is quite powerful as an editor, because as you view the slide show, you can see images "full screen" and use function keys to SORT those images by moving them into different folders on your drive.
At the lab I worked in, we had four Macs set up as editing stations for school classroom group photos. We had a multi-user commercial license for it. It made going through hundreds of images easy to find the best image (best expressions, most eyes open, best exposure). The show can view forward and in reverse, so examining five images of the same group and picking the best one was easy.
I've used GC to show clients a choice of images, sorting them into keeper folders and print folders along the way. Then I import only the images I need into Lightroom...
Thanks to everyone for their help.
