Yesterday I saw a camera body on line from Best Buy. It is a body only and pick up at store. It is an open box item. Unfortunately the camera is over 100 miles away. I called only to be told the do not ship open box items. Any thoughts?

100 miles X 2 = 200 miles. @ 20 mpg, that's 10 gallons. @ the now ridiculous price of 1.25 per gallon, that's $12.50 premium. Go get it.

Yes I WAS. Didn’t mention I am in a wheelchair. Decided against the whole process and keep an eye out for what I am searching for. Thank you for your thoughts.

I want to apologize for some of the responses you got. There is unfortunately a vocal contingent here who routinely (1) have nothing constructive, creative, helpful or intelligent to say, and (2) cannot resist the urge to spout off anyway.

But on balance the forum can be a good resource.

I think most of us did not realize you were wheelchair bound. A 4 hour round trip is probably a little hard on you whether you drive or someone else drives. It doesn't change the savings versus the cost/time, but it does change whether the time is worth the discomfort. If this 100 miles is still beyond your "grasp", keep an eye out for something used and meeting the rating you want/need at Keh, Adorama, and B&H.

Well, I guess you have choice. Is the price good enough for me to waste about five hours on the trip to Best Buy and back? Aside from your time, factor in the expense of gasoline and at least one meal on the road.

Decided it’s not worth my time or effort. Plenty of places will take my money.

My wife 'decided' to steal my second desktop's monitor for her office at home and has no intention to give it up. I knew I'd have to buy a new monitor to replace it. So, why not research what has reviewed well, gotten good user ratings and has a 'reasonably good' retail price.

Did some searching and found the HP Pavilion Gaming 32 - about the size needed, flat screen, excellent for color retouching, etc., etc. Searching for prices, I found Best Buy, a few others and B&H. The Best Buy price matched HP's and most of the other retail prices. B&H was a bit lower. I drove to BB to see the monitor, or at least it's somewhat less expensive brother.

In the parking lot, I'm greeted as I get out of the car by a young man asking if I've made an appointment with a technical advisor to enter the store and discuss my needs. I said, "No, I want to see the monitors you have on display. And, if I'm happy, I will buy it." He told me that they did not allow customers to enter the store without an appointment. And I could drive around the side of the building to talk with one of the BB local tech people who could show me any of the items in their stock - on a computer screen! - I won't repeat the words that were in my mind about the time wasted. I said something much nicer and got back in my car.

I went online and looked at the BB website. Delivery of the monitor I wanted would be 1 week. I decided to look at B&H's listing - $50 lower and delivery next Wed. By this time, with the experience of today, it was an easy decision. I'm getting my new monitor delivered on Wed. And I used PayPal Credit so I can pay it off with no fee within 6 months.

Recommendation - look at the options for where you live and make an informed choice.. (My 200-500 Nikon zoom was purchased at Best Buy. That was then.)

Many national retailers, seeking to best protect their staff and customers, are using their own good judgement about when it is safe to reopen, not that of the occupant of an executive mansion somewhere.

And I don't believe B&H has yet opened their physical showroom.
