I use the "Drop Box" app, which is cloud storage. From my Evo 4G I put the photos in DB and they're available on my PC for e-mailing or down/uploading.

I plug the phone into the PC via USB. The phone asks, and I agree, 'Turn on USB storage' to make it an external drive on the computer, then I just download using Elements Organiser.
I must just select the photos to download carefully, else it downloads anything with an image such as thumbnails so cluttering up the computer.
At the end, press 'Turn off USB storage, on phone and use 'Safely remove hardware' on PC before unplugging phone.
