Lightroom question or maybe lens question

Lightroom has a lens profile correction button. My lens is a 500mm 4f Canon which is clearly exhibited in the long list of lenses that can be corrected, even if I add an extender. My problem is when I apply this button nothing happens. I have to go to the list of Mfg. in my case Canon, add that, then find the lens and add that, then it works. All 7 of my other lens work automatically. My question is: is it the lens or is it something I can fix in lightroom. I can't seem to find the answer on the internet. Thanks

Have you asked Adobe LR support the same question? You also didn’t say if your SW is current or are using a legacy version?

Define 'nothing happens'. The lens profile correction applies to RAW files, where typically / possibly the camera applied a correction to the JPEG from the body. You do have to download and install profile to your EOS body for most lenses to have this happen in-camera. Also for the longer lenses, there is little 'correction' to make. My EF 300 makes not visual change. I clicked an image from the 100-400L II with 1.4x, and again, there was no visual change in removing / restoring the LR profile correction to the CR2 file I picked. For wide and lenses and zooms like the 24-105, the correction and visual change is obvious.

What he said. Lightroom doesn't correct jpegs, but your camera might.

Are we talking about the Canon 500m F/4 L lens? One of the greatest lenses ever?

If you saw a noticeable correction with this lens, you should send it in for repair. Of course you do not see a big change, there is very little to correct.

I think every lens can have some CA, that's a physical property, not really to do with the quality. And every lens I think can have a little distortion. The OP can send me the lens, I'll test it for them, give a report within a year or two....

Got me curious, not much to correct. https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-500mm-f-4-L-IS-II-USM-Lens-Review.aspx

Yes! You are right! I was being thoughtless. Therefore, I would like to partner with you on the testing. I think we trade off months for two years with the OP paying for the shipping as his contribution to our effort and sacrifice. I am willing, ready and able.

Yes shooting raw, when I click the button nothing happens, I must find Canon in the menu of mfgs. click on Canon then find the lens in the lens menu click on that, then it works. All my other lenses work as lightroom reads the lens automatically and applies the correction. Thought maybe one of you guys had an easy answer. thanks

My point is lightroom doesn't read the lens automatically, I have to go in and find it. yes, 500 4f L is a good one.

The OP states that the issue is that the lens correction is not detected automatically for this lens (vs. what happens with the rest of the lenses).
For this one, manufacturer and lens model must be selected manually.

Sorry I can't help with a solution, but my understanding of the OP is different to the rest of previous answers and I wanted to "clarify" or "translate" it a bit. Hope it helped.

I'm wondering if you can add it to your presets? Maybe start with your usual, then add the lens profile, then save a new preset to include all.

What version of the lens do you have? What version of LR and CR are you running? At adobe support the II is supported in LR 6.3 + CR 9.3.

Longer lenses (like a 500mm) have much less correction. Wider, like a fisheye or my 16mm benefit from it a lot.

I'd guess that lens just doesn't need much, so you don't notice much.
