Is it just me, or does anyone else find in a little bizarre that a mere sheriff seems to have the right to override a governor?

Seems to mean that we can all cherry pick, and choose

Depends on state law.
Texas has a long history of independence.

In our case, the Governor explicitly gave the counties freedom to make stricter rules than what he set, and ours {with the 7th highest number of Covid-19 cases - out of 92 - in the state} took him up on that.

It is not that simple.

Absolutely correct. Sadly it’s a mess right now, but who says you can’t go “outside”?? Those of us with any property at all can still do our gardens etc. when out in public, do ME A FAVOR where a mouth & nose cover, for gods’ sake. Be responsible....................RJM

You don't want to be hit by me then stay home where it is safe Your Choice

The rights of the individual do not out way the rights of the group, I would have thought you would have realized that by now. I am all for you getting the virus, just don't clog up the Hospital with your irresponsible action.

You always have the choice to go out and mingle - increasing the chances of getting the virus - and then unknowingly but passing it on to others.

More strict makes sense - allowing local law enforcement to tighten things up where needed seems perfectly reasonable, within limits. Less strict does not. Kind of like not eating fish on Thursday because you know you're going to a BBQ on Friday... I have a huge dislike of such cherry picking. Clearly a B&W fan;)

And there is the root of it. Ideology/Mythology. My personal freedumb out weighs group well being, and anything I don't like or understand or interferes with my immediate wishes in any way has to be bad and or unconstitutional.

Being ELECTED to office, a sheriff is the highest law enforcement officer in the land!

There are really only two options in this world. Liberty and those that want to control you and take away your liberty. There maybe subgroups but in the end, even with those subgroups there are only two.
A good study on this existentialism. Yes our actions have consequences, both good or bad. And we are accountable for both. But they question remains, does the government have the right to impose itself onto you. We have societies where that is happening and only one where we have liberty. Ben Franklin said those who give up freedom for a little security deserve neither. But there is much more to it than that . But let us strive always to keep our liberty all the while preserving our rights to help others.

I agree however blanket passage of laws is not a solution. There is always an exception and someone who it will affect negatively. At a funeral the other day, I had a relative who said she could not wear a mask for health reasons. It could kill her and after hearing her plea she was correct. I said well you should get mask then that has a hose on it with a tank on the other end. Problem is she could not afford it. Other solutions? Yes there are those but not in the town where she lived.

Not "options", Paul, "realities"! Usually only one is a choice... the other results from coercion!

I believe that in a free and just society people exercise their rights with choices that do not infringe on the rights of others.

I live in a ruby red state. But even our Governor, deputy to Mike Pence, publicly apologized when he forgot his mask.

The paper/cloth mask does NOT protect YOU. It is to protect the other guy from YOUR cough, sneeze or breathing on them. Vapor droplet carrier of virus from YOU.

If I want to go outside - MY CHOICE

You dont want to catch anything from me then stay away from me min 6 ft. Again YOUR CHOICE

If other people want to get close to me, again. -THEIR CHOICE.

We all have - CHOICES. and only you can make them.

Just because your choices do not agree with mine does not give you the right to force your choices on me. If you do not agree then refer to sentence 1 above
You don,t want to catch this virus, then don,t go ... (show quote)

If your choices cause harm or could potentially cause harm to others, then your “choice” becomes null and void. Why do you think we have speed limits?

Common courtesy and decency, respect for others, social responsibility, all seem to be sorely lacking in America these days.
