As I traverse the field I often times come across a streaking blur of fur. Not the fox but the prey. Wary, hyper sensitive with good eyesight and hard to capture. But the fox gets his share and lives in their burrows.

Depends where you live. Groundhog (Marmota monax) is the official name. I always called them Woodchuck or target.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

We bought a house that came with a Groundhog. My wife thought he was cute until he ate all the blossoms off of her flowers. The next day my wife poured a large bucket of well-used kitty litter into the critter’s burrow. He moved out and never returned. I learned that I should be never mess with my wife’s flowers.
