Not sure about the guy sitting on the car, but that looks like Donner tied up to the parking meter.

i think the marque of the theater says Winner of the Academy Award, but I can't make out the movie title - looks like 3 words (two long, one short).

Anybody else able to sharpen it enough to read it?

Seems like a brilliant analysis. Is that "World Without Sun" from 1964? Would the Anchorage Fourth Avenue Theatre show a French documentary film directed by Jacques-Yves Cousteau, in French?

That's the best fit I can get with a magnifying glass. Maybe the original image has a better resolution to show the words?

Better sharpen up your math skills, Bebu. Someone who was 10 years old in 1960 would have been born in 1950, and would be 70 years old today, not 90.

Sure! My Bad! Damn for some reason I though from 1960 to 2000 is 60 years. I guess my brain was occupied about designing the paper calculator for R.G.

I think you nailed that, Paul. Good eyes, good work. That helps date the photo.

And a nod to rook2c4, their post did estimate early to mid Sixties.

Perhaps best to contact former employees of Stewart's Photo (specifically, those who worked there in the early to mid 60's) and find out what they remember of the incident; the photographer may have been a regular customer at the shop. Surely Stewart's Photo must have old payroll documents somewhere.

Thank you for your reply. I will pass this on.

Wow! Vintage 4th Ave. Anchorage. Probably taken in the Fall since the Fur Rondy banner is up and no snow. When I want something photographic in Alaska, Stewarts is the place.

Thank you for your reply. You noticed the same thing I did about the Fur Rondy banner. And to think that event is still happening today.

If you need anything, you can always call them up and order from them. Help endorse your small camera shops.

If that photo was taken in 1964 it must have been before March 27 1964 because of the earthquake ripped the hell out of 4th street. I went up to Alaska, Anchorage In May of that year. I work for a oil exploration company lot’s of work after that happened.

Ask local reindeer owners. They may know who owned reindeer and took them places on a leash back then

Thank you for your reply. The reindeer belonged to Mrs. Stewart. When Mrs. Stewart passed away, she gave the house and the reindeer to someone who has continued the tradition. He is on reindeer number six or more now.

Here is Star, the reindeer.

That looks like one of the first "Star, the reindeer). Star was kept in the fenced yard of a house on the edge of the Park Strip (chances are Brian knows that) and the man sitting on the car hood was probably Star's handler. There were several Stars over the years. This is probably the first one. I bet a check with Anchorage Daily News archives (if they still include those of the Anchorage Times, too) could provide answers to any questions.

Thank you for the terrific idea. I am helping Brian try and find out more about this image. Most likely Brian had not thought of contacting the Anchorage Daily News. Hopefully, they might have the Anchorage Times archives. I will pass this on.

I was thinking about 58. With a full restoration those are worth a small fortune (Well over $100,000) today. It could also be a Chrysler. Look at the pinkish color. I had a 58 De Soto with that color.

LOL!!! My grandparents had a pink De Soto. I remember that car.

Phew! I was born in 1951 and was wondering where the last twenty years had gone. Thank you for giving them back to me.

Thank you for the great idea. My eyes are not good enough and I do not have a magnifying glass readily available. I will wait for one of the eagle-eyed guys to help us out.

This sounds terrific. Thank you for helping nail down the date. Unfortunately, Brian does not have access to the original image.

This is terrific as you were there. Thank you. This helps to narrow down the date. I will let Brian know.

In Europe the animal would be called a "Reindeer". The same species in Alaska and Canada would be called "Caribou"
