I have a Canon printer and when I need ink I just take the cartridge down to Costco and get it refilled. I have not had any problems. As far as I am concerned ink is ink.

Yes ink is ink, and unless it is messing up your printer, all this purism about ink is quite silly. Do I really believe that all the people on this forum are printing great art requiring precise color control?

Thank you, I have also considered third party ink, but was not aware that Costco will refill old cartridges. To me, that seems worth checking out.

I need to purchase new ink and paper.
I would appreciate advise regarding whether I should consider other inks, rather than Cannon ink? Also ideas regarding the best photo paper for my printer would be helpful. I photographic scenics, birds, flowers and people primarily in black and white.

I had that printer and used ink I bought from eBay cheap. Never had a problem. It cost about 1/10th the cost of new ink from Canon.

You might try Red River paper. They have two sample packs you can purchase so you can see and use the paper first hand. I only buy from Red River. I only use Canon printer ink in both my canon printers -a small PIXMA TS 8200 all in one and a PIXMA Pro 10. I tried other inks but the printer rejected them.

Bob, you will receive replies from both camps. Some 'Con's', and some 'Pro's'. I was an avid member of the CON group for many many years, until I tried 499inks.com. I have never bought 'factory' inc since and have been totally satisfied, with their ink AND their prices. I did have one cartridge that was faulty, but they replaced it, no questions asked.
I've compared color quality and found theirs to be equal to my factory ink. It's an 'each to his own' decision, but over the past three or four years, I have probably saved enough to have bought a couple of printers, but (so far) have had no problems or need to replace my printer and I do a reasonable amount of photo printing.

Safe answer: Buy factory ink if cost is not a factor. If you want to experiment a bit, try some of the generics. You, like me, just may be surprised.
God Bless,
Papa Joe

I use a Canon Pro 10 printer. I used to use a 9000. It is a very good printer. I always use Canon inks and never have a problem. I do not know if Canon offers this with Inks for the 9000, but when I purchase packs of ink directly from Canon on line they throw in for free sample packs of their pro papers. I now have more paper than I can use. I really like the papers and the price is right. The Canon online price for ink is the same price as camera stores.

I had a Canon PIXMA PRO-9000 Printer until it died a while back. Did fantastic color prints. OK B&W. I now have a PRO-100 (that a friend gave me free). Pretty similar quality but it has more features and works better with Windows 10. Your Printer is probably not new either. Can you even find off brand ink for it? The Canon ink for my old Pro-9000 was not easy to find. I find Canon Paper works fine, but I have other brands and some Art Papers.

The Canon model PIXMA Pro-10 and Pro-1 are higher end models and can also use specialty dye and pigment inks so perhaps they are programmed to reject other brands. Just my guess.

I've had mixed results with generic ink. I've had the best results from refilling cartridges, providing the cartridges can be refilled. I've never had a printer damaged with generic ink, but I've experienced very - VERY - light printing. I bought $75 worth of ink for my old iP4500, but it says the print head is bad.

What OS are you using? It was my understanding that the 9000 was not compatible with anything newer than Win7. Of course, if you're using an Apple, I don't know.

I have always had good luck with 3rd party inks. Clickinks is the one I'm currently using. If you have your printer connected to the internet in any way I recommend you not do any software or firmware updates as the company will disable your printer until you put their cartridges back in. They don't like users circumventing their extremely over-priced products.

I like using generic ink in my Canon TS9020, but most of them will FADE in a fairly short time. Check my fade tests I did last year and posted results here on this site.

"Watch Jose Rodriguez YouTube videos regarding refilling your cartridges with ink from precision colors" Have to echo the above comment. You are safe with Canon carts. You can save a bunch with 3rd party or refill your own. I use Canon in my 100 and refill from Precision and am happy with either. If fading could be an issue -- Canon is safer.
