Terry, I'm glad you use different shutter speeds than I. Shutter speeds are only one part of capturing an image the way it was intended. Since you seemed amazed at the speeds I mentioned, I thought I would throw one your way. You said 1/1,000 to stop a hummingbirds wings. This is how I do it at 1/200 of a second.

That is amazing & beautifully captured! Well done...
I have never been able to 'stop' the wings of a hummingbird at 200, or 320... I have a couple times at 400... usually at 500, and always at 1000. Your 200 shot is very impressive. Zero blurr or sign of motion. Nice detail, and perfection of the framing. Beautiful photograph.
What were your other settings?? The 200 shutter speed is still a WOW... you've got the first hummingbird IN FLIGHT shot I've ever knowingly see at that speed. Well done...
Terry, I made a mistake. It was taken at a 1/250 of a second and not a 200th. Taken at f/20 using a Canon 7D and a 400mm f/4 DO IS L Lens. Manual Focus and auto white balance. Hope this is the info you were looking for.

It's still an amazing photo... how those wings are stilled at that speed is something I've never seen before. I'll have to play with that more next spring.
Truly a beautiful shot... well done... That's greeting card, puzzle, and magazine worthy without any problem. Very nice shot.
