I use a bolt, with extra battery pack. Great value, great product and company. I works on a Nikon D750, D200 & D5000. No problems, fast recycle time.

Nikon is known for it’s flash system so I would buy a Nikon flash. If you’re going to stick with Nikon then buy their top of the line. You never regret buying the best.

Can anyone recommend a flash that is compatible with a d7200 - I've never used a flash before, apart from the built in one occasionally.

It will mainly be used for indoor photos.

I see a used Metz 36 AF 4 for a reasonable price on MPB - would that be a good starting point?

The following flash will allow you TTL and you can tilt the head and has a catch light panel for bounce.

I also really like my older Nikon SB-800 flash units, which are about the same as the flash above. You should be able to get a decent on off ebay.

I cannot say enough positive about the Nikon SB-400; I have written on here several times about them. Suggest you looking at Ken Rockwell's review, https://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/sb400.htm.

I got my Nikon SB800 about 10 years ago with my D80. Both are still going strong! I think it's great for beginners and professionals.....and intermediates (like me)! I did upgrade the camera to the D7100. The SB 800 serves both. I love it!

Metz is a good brand, but I myself wouldn't buy a used flash. To me, it's like buying a used light bulb. That doesn't make much sense, I know, but I'd prefer a new flash.

Yongnuo (China) and Nissin (Japan) are two brands worth considering. Getting one that works TTL would be a good move.

I had a Nikon SB-400. It's a jewel of a flash. It's surprising how powerful it is for its diminutive size. The only reason I sold mine is because the head doesn't swivel side to side. I couldn't bounce flash off the ceiling when in portrait orientation. I now have an SB-700 and SB-5000.

You said flash is like light bulb but I found that flashes don't wear out with use as much as cameras.

True, they don’t get used as often. What I’ve seen kill them the most is leaking batteries.

I think I will get one of the SB800. It's the best Nikon flashes for my cameras.

I have an SB700 and an SB600 for my D7200. The 700 is more user friendly. Also be sure to watch this video. It’s a good primer for using a TTL flash indoors. The guy sells the Lite Scoop diffuser but his advice is generic.

Just picked up a used SB-700 for my 7200 and it works great with variety of features.

I had a D7100 and one of the Nikon dedicated flashes of that vintage. It was a fine flash and I had never had a problem. More recently I bought a Fuji XT-30. Rather than a Fuji flash, I decided to try Godox. I got the TT350. I have not used it a lot, but it seems to be well built and do everything that the Nikon Flash did. The price was a fraction of that for the Fuji flash. Godox makes a wide range of flashes of different powers.

I use a Nikon Speedlight SB 910 on my d 7200 and I really like it. You should check it out and by all means, go with a Nikon whatever model you think is right for you.
