I'm a news hound, and I can only shake my head. In those states where people can now go socialize, via hair cut, nail salon, movie theatre, we can already predict what the illness and death graph will look four to seven weeks from now. And sadly enough, that will include their children. Like many of you, we are home quarantined. Out about once every two weeks, to a local market that offers seniors 7-8 am hours.

Yes, mask and gloves. We are confident we are negative, but the mask will show support for others. The gloves? In the biology department where I teach, research was made a month ago: How often do we touch our faces, and where? Answer, minimum of 22 times a day, mostly without even noticing it. Here was the surprise: eyes, that little corner that we often "clean" ever morning, and other times too. So in my mind, it's for face-protection that we wear gloves in the local market. Face IS the top entry point for bacteria and viruses.

I’m glad I live in Massachusetts! Our governor, Charlie Baker, has done a wonderful job.

The "chicken little approach"? So no ducking when someone is shooting at you?

The healthier attitude would be to understand the threat to you and others, and act accordingly.

As that researcher at CDC said, a long time ago, "It only takes one."

I'm wanting to not poke fun at others, but as a life long teacher, I understand "You can't fix stupid". I have an additional axiom. Intelligence on the planet is a constant, yet the population continues to increase.

It's a tough choice. Do we continue the stay in place and risk no one having a job to go back to much less money to pay for essentials or do we go out and risk getting this disease. Seems the vast majority of people are asymptomatic. In Wisconsin, their Dept of Public Health has seen no increase in cases due to the recent in-person voting, so draw your own conclusions. As for myself, I'll still "shelter in place" for at least a few more weeks as I am at a higher risk. The government will not be able to fund us much longer as they have no tax incoming revenues, thus a partial reopening seems feasible. I have read articles on both sides of this and it's still an uncertain situation...

Just today I heard a story on TV about the in person voting in Wisconsin. The story was that one polling worker and ?5-7? voters standing in line have tested positive for Covid-19. It's your state, hopefully you can do a little local sleuthing for the exact numbers and update us if the numbers change in the near future. But, the fact seems to be that people did get infected and should not have been forced to stand in line to vote instead of being allowed to vote by mail.

We have an election coming in May for Georgia, much more than just for Presidential candidates. We are already registered to vote by mail for this one. Hopefully we can vote by mail in November also.

I am a Georgia resident as well. I have family in Wisconsin. I am awaiting my absentee ballot... As for the voting in Wisconsin, who knows where those people picked up the virus. They may have already been infected. The big problem, everywhere, is in the testing. Being able to get the test kits and their accuracy. I saw an article on the news where people were tested and were false negative, then retested as positive...There is no easy answer here. If we remain on lockdown, many will not have jobs to return to and the government will not have the finances (tax receipts) to fund them... It's a "catch-22"....

This Friday, the Governor of Georgia will begin to allow small businesses to reopen - massage parlors, tattoo parlors, hair salons/barber shops, etc. (but not how to disinfect between each customer). He waited, like the Governors of many other states waited, for the President to say it was OK to close the state due to the Covid-19 infection rate.

Now, in Georgia, the medical professionals of this state expect Atlanta's Covid 'peak' to occur a little after May 1. The virus will continue to spread out to the suburbs, smaller towns and cities and rural areas over the weeks after that. We do not have the massive testing that is needed for everyone in the state. We don't know who is safe and who should be quarantined to help not spread the virus.

But, we will open, beginning this Friday, with more types of businesses and restaurants to open next week.

What will you do when this comes to your state, your community? - I can't believe it. I know people will get sick and some will die. - My wife and I have agreed to social distancing and to wear masks and gloves for the forseeable future - no matter what we are doing outside. We wore gloves and masks when we went to a nearby park this last weekend to enjoy and photograph a little of the new spring season. This will become our 'new normal.'

BTW - I have not seen masks or gloves for sale in any retail store, grocery or drug store that I have visited.
This Friday, the Governor of Georgia will begin to... (show quote)

I plan on living until I die and then Who Cares? hahahaa

I may be forced to drive there for a haircut.

I'm thinking about a haircut, also. If it goes too long, I'm going to look like my old passport photo from the late 70's/early 80's, except for the beard and mustache I had then.

It's the first time in my life that I remember thinking I have a full head of hair - too much hair? Got to try to look up the movie "Hair" Should be good for memories and a few smiles of what once was.

My wife used to be a hairdresser when she lived in Canada so I just have her cut my hair here at home...Lucky me (and I still have a head full of hair, no male pattern baldness)

During the Spanish flu in 1918 they thought they were flu free opened up the streets in Philadelphia and had a parade, and guess what the flu came back and 4000 people died, the people who run this country at all levels most could not find there ass in the dark with both hands and a flashlight so hopefully those with common sense ( don’t know how many are out there) will use good judgment.

My wife and I are high risk, especially me. The Governors are all trying to deal with a virus that caught the
whole world off guard. No one was prepared for what was coming. If we don’t start opening some businesses soon, I’m afraid a lot of them will never open again.
However, the businesses that I consider non-essential, are by other people. I think if they decide to open it has to be slowly, with limited employees, and strict safety guidelines. Then work up from there.
These are not easy decisions to make.
God Bless America

I understand wearing a mask, but why the gloves? If you are out and about without gloves and touch something that is contaminated your hands are contaminated until you clear the contaminate via hand washing, disinfectant, etc. The same applies for the gloves. At the beginning of the stay at home/shelter in place requirements I saw a man wearing gloves entering a grocery store. As he walked around the store he picked up items and placed then in the cart. He touched things wearing his gloves. He then proceeded to check out wearing the gloves, putting each item on the belt in the check-out line. He then proceeded to reach in his back pocket and pull out his wallet and retrieved his credit card, used the card and then placed it back in his wallet and put it back in his pants pocket. If the gloves were contaminated with the virus he potentially contaminated everything he touched while wearing the gloves, it would have been the same if he hadn't been wearing gloves. So I don't see the need for wearing gloves. Handwashing and frequent disinfecting would serve the same protection. Just curious, why the gloves?

Exactly.
Gloves, no gloves, the result would be the same.
Just wouldn't be on his fingers.
Until he gets his wallet out without gloves.

Just a quick note... I have noticed on the few times I have been out they there are a lot of people who are not social distancing, wearing masks or gloves. That includes my next door neighbor and the neighbor next to him... Their kids are always playing together and the adults had a party over the weekend. That said, I do live in a kind of rural area...

Scott, Glad you included a link to your photos on flickr. I enjoyed seeing them and reviewed your 'album' of favorites. Hope to see you on a GA trail, mountain, or nature walk in the future.
