Some Idahoans like me happen to place more value in The Bill of Rights than in tin horn dictators. Tell some guy or some single mom who is trying to feed their family there job is not essential. OBTW schools are now closed....why are school teachers still getting a pay check? Huh, brain trust of NY?

My heart goes out to any and all who have lost their income because of this lock-down - yes there are some who even though the job is "closed" they still have an income because of "loop holes in contracts" and folks like myself who is covered by SS & a retirement fund. But I would rather be struggling financially than going along like normal with the "REAL CHANCE" of getting infected, infecting my family and friends and rolling the dice to see who dies. My grand mother and 2 of her children died with the Spanish flue when my mother was 3.

November 7, 2006 — California Representative Nancy Pelosi and Nevada Senator Harry Reid lead the Democratic Party in taking control of both the House and the Senate in the 2006 congressional elections, the first time in 12 years the Democrats secure control of both houses of Congress simultaneously.
Senate Majority: Republican
Senate President: Dick Cheney (R)
Senate President pro tem: Ted Stevens (R)
House Speaker: Dennis Hastert (R)

109th United States Congress - Wikipedia

The Democrat party controls the House now.

If you mean that there were stock market drops, so what?

The Great Depression was not caused by the stock market crash of 1929. In fact, the market had mostly recovered by early 1930. The Fed was the cause of the Great Depression; that and the Smoot Hawley Tariff Act of 1930. The Feds also simultaneously cut the money supply by 7%, tightened credit to lenders, and screwed up the money supply. No money to lend, so businesses bellied up. The Great Depression did not end until 1946. It was exacerbated by the idiotic Fascist policies of FDR and his minions. FDR new less about economics than Hoover.

The 1987 crash was a combination of political intrigue in the Middle East and the fact that the Fed tampered with interest rates, even though there had been a bull market for over five years, and investors feared a downturn in the economy.

The 2008 crash was a combination of several factors. The banks had been forced to loan money to high risk home borrowers; Ginny Mae and Freddy Mac had securitized those mortgages, and forced banks to buy those packaged loans under threat of prosecution and lawsuits by the DoJ. Traders of marketable securities tried to hedge the programmed trading, causing the programs to fail. Lay the blame mostly to the Urban Revitalization Act, as amended. The Fed, at the same time tightened money on inflation fears.

The 2020 adjustment is strictly an emotional reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic: Nothing more. The markets are emotional by nature, and that's what is driving what could be a bear market.

Economics and finance lesson done for the day, Dim bulb.

Read a book; because you obviously have no concept of how markets and economics work.

You take that chance every day you get up and walk out the door. So tell me, what did you do last year? Hmm? I can tell you what we did...my wife and I both got the flu, stayed home when we were sick and got over it.

Warning: This may scare the crap out of you if you click on it

And I bet you didn't even know it was happening. Only difference is Trump is running for re-election and this is their last ditch effort to make sure he doesn't get elected.

No, The other difference is that if you and your wife both contracted Covid19, you might be dead.
Trump being up for reelection really has nothing to do with Covid19. His mishandling of the crisis, however, does.

When Obama became president, we were in the depths of the Great Recession after eight years of Republican leadership. President Obama (and Joe Biden) left office with a booming economy.

You can criticize Obamacare all you want to, but where is Trumpcare?

That's not quite accurate. The economy at the end of the obama presidency was certainly doing better than at the beginning, but it was far from booming. His recovery was the slowest since the depression. One more thing tha obama followers all ways ignore. Thyey give obama credit for "saving the auto industry""remember--Bin Laden is dead and GM is alive? BUT obamaq DID NOT save GM, the auto bail out was signed before Obama took office. Obama took credit for thye bank bail 0out. The TARP program. That also was signed before Obama took office. So in many ways the improoving economy was not obama's dooing. BUSH was responsible for much of tye revovery.

Well I guess he mishandled this as well, right? We might have died last year too. A lot of people did. Difference is this is an election year and you Obamniacs never let a good crisis go to waste.

The GM bond holders got screwed when Obama virtually nullified contract law buying it for pennies on the dollar and giving it to the UAW as a thank you for their votes.
