For me, if the Sigma works with the 810, I'm ok with that. The Z7 would be used for every thing else. As of late and all that is going on, I am not going to complain about the small stuff anymore.

You make a good point!

I know MT Shooter takes beautiful pictures. Maybe I’m just asking too much of the Z7. My D810 takes breathtaking pictures, I just hoped to switch to Mirrorless because of the weight. Instead of switching to the Z for my distance shots I’ll concentrate on trying the Z for the others and continue with the D810/Sigma for wildlife.

I’m looking forward to seeing my grandkids again after this pandemic is behind us!

Stay safe and God be with us all!

I have a D810 and Z7. I use the lens adapter to use my existing holy trinity Nikon lenses. However, my loved old Sigma 150-500 does not work with the Z7 even with the adapter. I've been told that the newer Sigma's do, but not my older model.

It's migration time!!!! I really want to get that Z7 out there.

I'd appreciate "any" input from my fellow hedgehogs that have tried long zooms with the Z7.

I'm curious what your opinions are on the Tamron vs Sigma models out there and anything else that I might consider.

THANKS!

Nikon will, within the year, have a 200-600 zoom available for the Z7. Wait for it.

Yep, I traded my old Tamron 150-600 in on a like new Nikon 200-500 so it will work on my Z7, but it primarily lives on my D500. I’m looking forward to the Z mount 200-600.

For the time being, keep the 150-500 on the 810 - OR - get the 200-500 for the 810 - it will be a step up.

Most wildlife work especially birds will challenge the AF of the Z7. Due to current circumstances, a long zoom in S mount is quite a ways off I am afraid ...

Make sure you have the latest firmware update on the Z7 ....

I too have Nikon 750 and Z7.
Z7 is tremendous! 750 is no match To it.
I use the Nikon 24-120, Nikon 80-200, and Tamron 27-300 with the adapter and all work just fine. It is pure joe using this camera!

A Nikon user might view it that way, but this is an adapter which allows for AF, and Canon does have a much better history of making lenses that happen to be compatible with this than Nikon has in making lenses compatible with their "FTZ" adapter. {I would LOVE to be able to use Canon lenses on my K-mount cameras!!}

The shots I posted are straight out of camera, no processing at all. I have my JPG recording set to "Landscape" with a +1 bump on the sharpening is all.

Excellent! Beautiful pics.

They proves you don’t have to shoot raw and spend time on the computer “developing” to get good results. Developing the skill to nail the exposure is more important. But that logic falls on deaf ears here.

And - standing in front of those beautiful scenes helps a lot too. ;)

I have been using my Z7 more lately and I am getting better results. I think getting accurate color has been more of a challenge for me with the Z than with my D750 because the on the Z has a lot more options for WB. But when I get it right it is very good.

I too am using “legacy” lenses. I have a good amount of F glass and I still use that with my SLR. The FTZ is one reason I bought the Z7. I dont want to buy a whole new set of lenses, costing thousands of dollars, that only fit on one body. If I am going to make that kind of investment I will buy more M43 glass.

May be so, but this adapter gives Nikon a chance to compete for those who have spent a small fortune purchasing EF-mount lenses over the past thirty years.

I agree and l use FTZ with my existing lenses.

But if I buy a Z lens it is a island. I can’t use it with my other Nikon bodies SLR and DSLR. If there was a ZTF adaptor that would provide more incentive to buy Z glass because it could be used on more than one body. But there is no ZTF nor likely will there be one.

I am at an age now {72} that I cannot justify {to myself} purchasing yet another set of lenses. If I cannot use it with what I already have, I most likely will not purchase it at all.

Here is some info regarding Sigma and Tamron lenses and the Nikon Z system. The first link is a list of all Sigma lenses that will work on Nikon Z cameras. The second one addresses Tamron firmware updates via their Tap-In console to upgrade three of their lenses to the Z system.

This may be of interest to anyone that already owns these lenses or is thinking about buying either a Sigma or Tamron lens to use with a Z camera.

Will be curious to hear, if you do end up using the Z7, how the auto focus turns out for wildlife. I have the Z7 and a D500. I use the D500 for all wildlife shots where there might be action, the buffer is endless and the auto focus catches right away. I have not had that type of experience when I experimented with the Z7. I use the Z7 for most any other shot, landscapes, flowers, objects, etc. and love it, it takes wonderful images. I use the D500 and a Nikon 200-500 for wildlife and that has worked good so far, was tempted to get the Nikon PF 500mm but so far have not made the leap.

Just made the decision to go ahead with purchase of Nikon 200-500. I’ll let you know once it arrives!
