Also, the photo you uploaded is not a 4x6 aspect. Be sure to do your crop first. Then when you export and do the re-size option, when you change the width to 3000, it will automatically do the other number as 2000.

Here is what a 4x6 would look like. #2 is what you posted.

Rather than crop for an aspect ratio I crop for the subject, but then you’ll need to do a little math and figure out which edge to base your resize on so that the other edge is less than the max allowed. Lightroom lets you specify either a long or short edge to set the value to and it automatically sets the other to maintain the aspect.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong because I picked the photo from the file that I download!

This shows up as 3000x2000, so you should be good to go.

Re SuperflyTNT's comment, I was maybe trying to make the steps too simplistic. But if you like this composition, it does now fit the requirements of the contest. Best of luck!

My pleasure, hope we didn't complicate things too much. I made it worse by going back and editing comments while you were reading and posting also

I would like to enter a contest that Sigma is sponsoring on photos from home, however I am over my head when it comes to the specifications on size. I have spent days reading how to and I never seem to get it correct. The specifications say the image must be 25MB and .jpg format with 3000x2000 maximum resolution. Can anyone dumb down a process to achieve this.

Next time, in LR, just choose the option for export on the long side and put in the correct dimension needed. Then check the file size and dimension to ensure you don't need to adjust it.

Thank you. I guess I made it all harder than I needed to.

It can be tricky with all the different ratios and whatever else is needed. When you shoot it's good to crop to a certain ratio or size. That's why someone else said change it to 4 x 6, that is a 2:3 ratio and most digital cameras shoot that way, unless you've set it differently, and if you crop that will change the ratio. Experiment with the export function in LR to figure it out. Good luck with your contest.

You probably want to clone-away that large sensor spot in the sky (upper center) of your image before submission. This link to a lengthy discussion explains the rational for using 2048-pixels on the long side for digital sharing. The exact same method applies to resizing your digital image to 3000-pixels on the long side for other images / purposes, using a few example software, including a screen print from Lightroom: Recommended resizing parameters for digital images

If I'm understanding correctly from the original post the file has to be "under" 25MB not be at least 25MB. If that is correct then your files size is well under the competitions requirement and should work just fine as is.

CHG CANON thank you for mentioning and I actually did clone it out before I made my final export.

Yes it is up to 25 MB which was not stated in the original email I received regarding the contest but Linda was able to access additional information.
