Want recommendations for a carbon fiber tripod. I don't want to spend a fortune. would like to keep it under $700. I'm looking at equivalent of a Gitzo series 3. I have read many reviews but unfortunately I can't go to any camera shops due to safe at home reatrictions to look. I'm looking at Colorado Tripods, Jobu Designs, Sirui, Benro, and several others. I'll be looking at Gimble heads to put on it. Here is my main question. At these high end models, are the differences between them major or just really nuanced, if that makes sense. Would love recommendations and other input.
I suspect that any high end tripod will serve you well, although the choice of a gimbal head is probably as important as the choice of the tripod itself. So in that sense, I think the choice among the high end tripods is "nuanced."
I use a Gitzo Series 3 (the GT3532 -- was $788 at B&H) with both a gimbal and a ball head. I've been exceedingly pleased with it. I don't expect I'll ever need to buy another tripod.
I was at B&H just before all this for the same reason. The FLM tripods look pretty good & cheaper than the big names (Gitzo/res).

Take the recommendations you receive and look on ebay to save some money. Back in 2013 I took a recommendation for a G1352 MkII Carbon Fiber Professional and found one for $420. Then added a RRS BH-40 head for a great combo.
I have an Induro CLT203 carbon fiber and it has been used in pretty rough terrain over the past few years and looks like the day I bought it. Induro makes outstanding tripods. They're not cheap, yet Induro tripods are built well and last as long as the more expensive tripod brands. If you want to get away cheaper the Benro tripod line represents the biggest bang for your money.

Here is a site that someone here on UHH previously posted. It attempts to apply some engineering science to its scoring method. You might find it useful.

I had a Series 3 that I purchased in 2007. It was a great tripod, but not stable enough for a 500mm lens on a crop sensor camera. So I sold it and purchased a Feisol CT-3472, which was a bit more rigid and stable. I still have it and have used it extensively with my 600mmF4 + 1.4X TC, and a variety of other lens/camera combination. I paid $500 plus shipping from China, but they have made a couple of improvments (anti-rotation legs, like Gitzo and a few other refinements), and it sells currently for $600, making it still cheaper than the comparable Series 3. Adorama and B&H usually have it in stock. From my research it is the lightest, strongest tripod on the market - it's almost 1/2 pound lighter than the Series 3, has thicker legs and is more stable.
Thanks. I have looked at the website. I wish they had a comparison feature to be able to compare all the data they have between different models they have tested. As the site is now, it is not easy to really compare different tripods
Check out the Robus tripods. I purchased mine from b&h. Very satisfied. I hope you have an amazing day.

Hay dtsobel, you can't use a tripod even if you got it. So, my strong, strong advice is this. Wait till we are over this and go to the camera store and try them out.
Buying a tripod is a lot like buying shoes, yes, you can order shoes, but if they don't fit or feel right, you have to return them. The best way to buy shoes is to go to a shoe store and try them on.
Same with a tripod. You really have to try it out to come to a reasonable decision. So grasshopper, practice some patience and it will soon be safe to go out into the fresh air again.
When I was last in NYC I went to B&H and spent 2 hours trying them ALL out. I came home with my ideal tripod, and it was not the same brand I thought I would like and it was less expensive.
Thedigitalpicture.com has many reviews of tripods and heads that you can study from home. I chose Really Right Stuff and saved by buying some of it from eBay.
