FWIW: I had an issue (similar) on the MacPro ... their solution worked fine - here is their response.
Seems it's a) completely remove app and 99% of files and reinstall

Hi Bob,

Thanks for reaching us. Please try reinstalling Luminar. We recommend doing a full uninstall with AppCleaner. AppCleaner is a free app that automatically removes not only applications but also the related files, making 'clean' uninstall easy.

1. Download AppCleaner from here (click this text to open link).
2. Install AppCleaner and start it.
3. Drag Luminar from your Applications folder into the AppCleaner window.
4. When removing Luminar, mark all the files and folders on the list, except for W788AXG3.com.skylum.luminar4
5. Once you've uninstalled Luminar, restart your Mac.
6. Download a fresh version of Luminar following this link: https://downloads.skylum.com/luminar4/mac/Luminar4.dmg (mac file)

Obviously.

I dislike it because it is poorly implemented and won't allow me to get a processing job done efficiently. For example like most modern parametric raw editors (LR, C1, On1, DarkTable, DXO, etc.) Luminar provides a masking option so that you could for example create a linear gradient mask and use that to alter the sky in an image. But unlike all those other apps I just listed Luminar freezes that mask once created and won't allow you to for example tweak it's position should you decide it needs say a minor rotation. Instead you're forced to delete it and re-do the entire thing. That sucks.

For example Luminar like most modern parametric raw editors (LR, C1, On1, DarkTable, DXO, etc.) provides tools for erasure/cloning/healing. Unlike all those other apps I just listed Luminar places those erasure/cloning/healing job on a separate Layer that will not update any changes or adjustments to previous editing of the image. Basically they throw a destructive monkey wrench into the editing workflow and if you decide you want to make a change to say WB, or input profile, or lens corrections, etc. you have to delete any and all erasure/cloning/healing work, make the change and then re-do the erasure/cloning/healing work. Can't think of any word except stupid design and boy does that suck.

I too have Luminar (latest addition). I have had no problems in using their software. I have a problem on sky replacement, but I think it is me not them. I get a halo around my subject when the contrast is to great between the sky replacement and my subject. Their AI work is very good and will only get better. Don't give up on them.

I know there has been discussion about this, but I’m tearing my hair out. Last month, I purchased Luminar 4, and downloaded it on my Dell Windows 10. Now I can’t open it. Luminar’s customer support is no help- I’ve tried all their on-line help suggestions. There seems to be no avenue to speak with a representative. Now I just want to cancel the order and get a refund, but try as I may, I can’t figure out how to do it.

I couldn't get it to work on my Dell either... Luckily I gave the trial version a shot before buying it. I deleted it 2 or 3 days later when I couldn't get it to work.

The OP is using Windows 10. Ergo, only step 6 would apply.

Luminar has some interesting features, but it also has some serious drawbacks - masking and cloning issues and frequent crashes if you work it too hard - if you actually are trying to do some serious work with it, in other words. Those features are not unique, they are merely presented in a sexy way that many people find more friendly or simpler to use.

The one possible good thing that I see with Luminar is as an introduction for people to parametric editing and to help people see the potential benefits of working with raw files.

What do you use digital imaging to do? Are you working with raw files? What is it you love about the program, and to what are you comparing it?

Not sure if it’s the same problem I had, but Hope this helps. When program opens to essentials, click the icon that looks like as artist’s paint palette on the right. Sorry if this is obvious and you are having different problems. BTW, I had similar problems with Support. Fortunately, a friend of mine is well versed in the program.

Never had a problem with Luminar 4 install or operation (running on Win 10 Pro); however, I did have a problem installing Aurora HDR. Skylum support resolved the problem in a couple of hours.

I like Luminar 4 but LOVE Aurora HDR!

I had some problems with Luminar 4 not working. I deleted the app and reinstalled it. The problem I had involved an external hard drive, and I have now reinstalled the program and it works fine. Skylum does respond to emails, it just may take time for them to get to you.

I had the same issue you’re describing on a Windows 10 PC. I could not open the program either as a free standing program nor as a Lightroom Plugin. I decided to do an uninstall and reinstall. However, when I went to uninstall the program I noticed a checkbox to repair the program instead. So I tried the repair process. That did the trick for me. It now works fine as a plug-in and as a freestanding program.

It is always an adventure with Luminar. If it isn't locking up or crashing for you, you probably are not pushing it very hard.

I’m not using Luminar but I’ll offer my experiences anyway because I lived through a similar situation with ON1 Photo Raw. I installed the 2020.1 update over a previous version and lots of issues. I suggest doing the following:

1. Stop all programs currently running including firewalls and anti-virus detectors.
2. Uninstall Luminar 4 and run a cleanup program like Ccleaner. Make sure you include the registry cleaner.
3. Shutdown and restart. If the firewall and anti-virus start back up. Shut them down. Shut down any other auto starts.
4. Reinstall Luminar 4 as administrator.
5. Restart the computer and turn the firewall and anti-virus. If Luminar like particular settings like handing off to your graphics processor, etc, check those as well.

Good luck!

I am not a PC user but from my work days, the above process is what I would suggest as well. Luminar is an old Mac software company and seems to do that platform better probably because of experience.

Good luck
