Fantastic photo and story. Bless you for staying with the young lady (I do realize you did not really have a choice) and seeing her back to safety.

I am curious as to whether her parents are filing a law suit for you putting her at risk. I have absolutely no problem with what you did and look upon your actions as over and beyond what a normal person would have done. But sometimes parents do not see you as trying to do good for their little darlings.

I like it. I think good Grand Canyon shots are not easy to get. Been there 3 times.

I am with you. I have been to the Grand Canyon a few times as well and sometimes the sun is just not going to cooperate. The beautiful exquisite views we see of the Grand Canyon are usually when the light gives us some shadows to highlight the beautiful colors of the Canyon. Usually when I have been there the sky gave me flat lighting which did nothing for my photos.

That I did do, but only 12x18 inches and a plastic frame. Then she transferred schools. Lol.

I can’t get it from here but I have a pic of the sign we encountered a few minutes into the hike. “Down is optional. Up is mandatory. “

Interestingly our school trip has several release forms so all that was f no issue and we also had a sign up sheet that kids had to sign to take that big hike. The biggest event other than the actual hike was everyone liking the salted and syrup-ed leftover pancakes I made the girl eat for dinner. She had lost a. Ugh of salt and I was trying to stave off nighttime leg cramps. Ended up having to make more pancakes after everyone got to eating them.

Glad it worked out OK for you and the young lady.

It was an epic adventure: 16 days, 226 miles on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon from Lee's Landing to Diamond Creek. The photos are memories of a special adventure: I got engaged on the River on July 4th and this was the big test for our future compatibility on extreme adventure travels.

That is me rowing in the sunshine and me in the red with my intended rowing in the downpour.

When there is a story behind the photo, the memory lasts a lifetime and the image is worth preserving.
I'm from the east coast and I've been there only twice. I did not get good shots because we always arrive at high noon and most of my shots are washed-out.

I like the foreground pine tree as you are able to frame the canyon. The gray sky blended well with the gray ravines. Overall, the image is sharp aided by your use of F13 DOF. Your use of high ISO also captured the inauspicious ambient light.

Thank you for sharing.
