Great capture. I love seeing images of Route 66, as I have never had the opportunity to travel it.

Thanks for the memory, very nice shot. I rode Route 66 about 6 years ago and have been encouraging my brother to do it with me some time in the not to distant future. I nearly changed my mind because of the current world situation but upon seeing yours and other posts on here I might have to change it back again. Met some wonderful people over there.

I can almost hear the music (Take it Easy) blaring from the speakers out of this store all day long. I assume it is not 24/7. Great experience.

Colorful shot. My favorite region is the AZ portion. So much to see and shoot.

Really folks, some of the best (and historic) photographs can be had on this highway. I have occasion to drive portions of this road at least twice each year because my children and grandchildren live in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Once this virus situation is over I will once again be taking my cameras "on the road" and one of my goals for later this year or early next year is to drive the entire length of Route 66.

I've posted a shot taken in Tucumcari, NM a few weeks ago. I passed this scene late one evening and took a few photos. Upon review I decided that the blue hour would work better. I set my alarm for 5:00 am and made sure that I was set up for the shot during the morning blue hour. This is the result.

Excellent picture. You've captured a bit of history.

I may be wrong but I seem to recall that, well over a half century ago, there was a Route 66 office or store on Michigan Avenue in Chicago that sold or gave away maps and guide books for the full length of the highway. The purpose, I suppose, was to publicize it and aid people who planned to travel it.

I have done three Route 66 trips the last three/four years
Each year it gets more difficult, but, there are still lots of gems along the way
We "break up" 66 into segments of potential interest

A great stretch is 66 from Flagstaff, Oatman, Arizona west through western California. Oatman is interesting, Needles has great 66 wall art

Our next trip plan when things return to normal is from Springfield, Ill. west to St Louis and into eastern Oklahoma (Commerce-Tulsa and OK City).

What works best for us is to fly into the beginning of our roadmap, rent a car and fly out at the end

If interested, I have Route 66 photos (See albums) posted on FLICKR

When you go through Oklahoma you must stop (limited parking) at the Red Circular Barn in Arcadia. It's one of the few remaining examples of that architecture. They have platform in the middle of the room where you stand and you can hear someone whispering along the wall.

It was a great experience, but if any music was playing at the time I must have missed it. Have a nice day fantom.

Yep, he was, even though he would never let me borrow the car, I did drive it with him several times before he left us in '73.

Otto is a factory race car 'homologation' and Gramps, knowing my propencity for collecting tickets, was reluctant to turn me loose with the car.

My Ex-wife was in charge of a nurse's Christmas Party one year and we had it upstairs in that barn.

Thanks for the heads up on the DVDs. I just purchased it in spite of the reviews. I do my trip planning well in advance of the actual trip and I'm going to use this set so I can concentrate to the spots with the best photo opportunities.

No, still picturesque. Here's an album, Rt. 66, hat I put together during travels on Rt. 66 - we found ourselves on the hwy by chance. We were en route to Oatman, a curious town befitting its location on the famous route. Click the links to view the album.
