Any kind of mask, neckerchief included, will keep you from touching your face after you've possibly touched a contaminated surface.

Things are getting real weird!! Just saw a FB video of a woman suggesting the use of a thong underwear as a mask. Her and her husband demo'd this. Something is better than nothing, if needed, I guess. Anything to save a life is primary.

With the shortage of medical masks what do you think about western neckerchiefs as an alternative?

That would help. It is common knowledge that surgical masks are ineffective at stopping someone from being infected -- only the N95 masks are effective. What other masks do -- surgical as well as cloth is keep your breath, cough traveling so far in the air and possibly infecting others. So no protection for the wearer but some protection for those they come in contact with.

I'm wondering if it's possible to snag an old M79 gas mask with filters from an Army Surplus store. I'm pretty sure that would stop you from touching your face and keep nasty viruses away.

I saw the Frito Bandito at the supermarket a couple days ago wearing a black bandana for a face mask. It didn't do him much good though. The mask covered his mouth but not his nose.

But he seemed satisfied, so I guess that's what's most important.

There is no store within a 100 miles around here that have masks of any kind. So there's that.

Maybe so, but Jesse James never caught the coronavirus.

Good for Cowboys keeping dust out from herding cattle.
Not so good for viruses.
