TV news is divided substantially between righty and lefty shows. There are winners and losers in the new information economy, but one of the biggest losers has been the old religion about the importance of basic factual accuracy and what used to be called “balance.”

I’m sentimental for the old system, even while acknowledging its shortcomings. I’m horrified by what has replaced it, which has quintupled the old demons called “selective perception” and “confirmation bias.”

There’s a part of human nature that, rather than wanting to know what’s accurate and true, wants to believe certain things, whether true or not.

I’m not one who thinks Donald Trump is a genius, but if he is a genius, his genius is rooted in his understanding of that above-referenced feature (or bug) of human nature.

It’s not that he’s clever about it. He’s blatant. He lies all the time. In the age of fact-checkers, his lies are easily and quickly identified and publicized. But this easy access to a catalog of his lies has no apparent influence on the bond between him and the roughly 40 percent of the electorate that supports him or at least “approves” of him, as measured by approval polls."

Many of Trump's lies have ,in fact, have been inacurate statements not outright lies. And so far, at least, his handling of the Carona Virus pandemic has been fairly good. You can nit pick about this or that but hye has done reasonably well. Many of the difficulties have been as a result of previous administrations (of either party) neglect.

Arch, how can you even ask such a stupid question? Choosing to ignore Trump's lies/falsehoods is one thing, but denying their existence is just blind ignorance.

Easily explained. Look up "blind ignorance" in the dictionary, and you will find a portrait of Arch.

Keep your doctor lie?
Keep your insurance lie?

Assuming you are correct about the lies, (I don't) let's compare the deaths on Obama's watch to the deaths from just this one incident. When he claims he knew it was a pandemic before anyone knew it was a pandemic, one day after he was saying it was nothing and would take care of itself, what do you call that, and why do you accept it as OK?

You've refused to accept it. Assuming you can read, that is unacceptable. If you can't read, don't let Dennis find out, or he will surely make fun of you.

LOL No it wasn't you pathological liar...These were donated items by the private sector not the U.S. government. The U.S. government was responsible for the shipment. We have been doing this for over 25 years.

PRESS STATEMENT

MICHAEL R. POMPEO, SECRETARY OF STATE

FEBRUARY 7, 2020

Share
"This week the State Department has facilitated the transportation of nearly 17.8 tons of donated medical supplies to the Chinese people, including masks, gowns, gauze, respirators, and other vital materials. These donations are a testament to the generosity of the American people.
Today, the United States government is announcing it is prepared to spend up to $100 million in existing funds to assist China and other impacted countries, both directly and through multilateral organizations, to contain and combat the novel coronavirus. This commitment – along with the hundreds of millions generously donated by the American private sector – demonstrates strong U.S. leadership in response to the outbreak."

"This assistance only adds to what the United States has done to strengthen health security programs around the world. For the last 20 years, the United States through USAID has invested over one billion dollars to strengthen the capacity of more than 25 countries to prevent, detect, and respond to existing and emerging infectious disease threats. Since 2015, under our commitment to the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA), this support has helped improve surveillance and laboratory systems, risk communication, outbreak response, and address the rising threat of anti-microbial resistance."

"The United States is and will remain the world’s most generous donor. We encourage the rest of the world to match our commitment. Working together, we can have a profound impact to contain this growing threat."

What I find hard to understand is the hate you people harbor for someone who is doing so much for America and Americans. A president like Trump is long overdue.
