I saw PS Elements on sale yesterday, 24 hours only ☹️ for $59-... I missed it, of course. It was for stand alone version. I have and use LR, but it doesn't do layers! I don't want/need full PS, so does anyone have any experience with Elements? I think I probably missed a DEAL!

Supplement LR with Affinity Photo and save even more $$$: https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/photo/

Photoshop Elements is an excellent program. I have used several different versions. Adobe seems to release updated versions every Fall. The new versions always have some improvements. I think the new versions are about $80 or $90.

Photoshop Elements doesn't do everything Photoshop does, but what it does do (quite a lot) is excellent. The last version I used was probably purchased about 10 years ago. I won't try to describe the latest versions since in 2013 I went to the Lightroom/Photoshop subscription. That may not be right for everyone, but it has worked well for me.

Many happy PS Elements users on this site, including myself. It's often mentioned when people ask for recommendations for software.

"Stand-alone" is the only way it is sold. And you don't have to buy yearly; often the changes are minimal.

They have a free trial. Check minimum system requirements; if your computer will support, try it!

After using Photoshop from the early days through CS 5, updating every couple of years, I was disappointed that they went to subscription only. I had some Elements disks on the shelf that I got for free over the years. It did most of what I needed. Since then I have updated it every few years or so for $59.

It is not my only editing program, but it is the one I use every day.

The only real downside of Elements is that most of the tools are 8-bit. Whether or not that produces visible differences depends on what operations you perform.

This is an important point for our OP, if they shoot in RAW. For JPEG files, PSE provides an excellent set of tools as plug-in to their LR.

Shot in raw with a 16 mp camera (Panasonic G7), edited in PS Elements and Nik Collection.

"Good enough" for me, but did the OP purchase a full-frame camera as he was discussing about 15 months ago? He says he doesn't want/need PS.

Elements will let you work with raw files to a point, before have to convert to 8 bit.

I agree, although our OP's stated interest is access to layers, so the point is to understand some of the limitations they may encounter, depending on their starting file format and their intended results. As an LR owner, there's no logical reason to change the OP's RAW processor (if applicable), whether they add PSE or not.
