I changed the filmstrip to vertical scrolling for now. Please let me know how it looks on an iPad.

This works much better on the iPad. The thumbnails for the last few pictures submitted will always be just above the display area, and it takes much less scrolling to go back to the earlier ones.

I'm still thinking of a solution to have horizontal scrolling in the filmstrip that would work with iPads. If I can't get it to work and end up keeping vertical scrolling, then I'll make the frame higher to accommodate two rows of thumbnails.

Very suprising! It ran fast and clean even with my old Win 2000 and (older) asus computer. Usually have to wait a long time to see A photo, but not this time.

Even the Vote function was quick. It might help though to allow a graded level of vote, even for a small group of photos. If people can't vote but once, or for only the top three, the sense of participation is sharply curtailed.

Also had trouble with the horizontal bar. 6 across, scrolling down would bring viewers the most, quickest.

Nice job setting it up...will give people a lot more to do!

Scrolling windows on web pages are problematic at best, on the iPad/iOS. If you have not used an iOS device, keep in mind the fact that the scrolling controller (the thumb, I believe it's called) does not function. Instead, you must use a two-finger swipe to scroll the contents. This is always more awkward than the single finger swipe used to scroll the entire web page.

I have encountered web pages with scrolling windows, and always find them unpleasant to use. I'm not sure why your scrolling window did not work at all, but even if it had, the two-finger swipe maneuver that is required makes it a less than ideal solution.

Since it appears that you don't have an iPad available to test with, you should be aware that, on a desktop computer, the thumbnail images are currently appearing in a vertical scroll box, while on an iPad, the thumbnails are appearing as a grid of images approximately six or seven wide, by seven high (with the current 43 images). The hight of the grid will, of course, increase as more images are added. If there were hundreds of images entered in a contest, an iPad user would need to scroll up and down the page to select and then view them.

Assuming that you can create a scroll box here that works for the iPad, I would suggest a vertical scroll box that would display about four or five rows of thumbnails at a time. This would allow enough room for the two-finger swipe to work more comfortably.

Yes, it sticks out past the edge of the screen and requires me to move the entire page to the left to see the right side.

There is no scrollable box. The entire contents is rendered as one large virtual screen.

That sucks. The link I posted is from a page set up according to the html standards.
If it doesn't even work for the guys that set the standards, then I'm not sure what I can do about it.

I'm not a programmer, but from what I can tell from my research is that iOS has some recognized problems with scrolling within iFrames.

That said, I think your current setup is a good compromise. The only thing you might want to try is increasing the thumbnail scroll box's vertical dimensions so that it will display two or three rows of thumbnails at a time for the desktop users. The iPad users will still need to scroll up and down the page, but I think that's easier and quicker than scrolling sideways.

I am not very up on all this and it looks great but what is the purpose of being able to download the original file for a submitted photo? Not that my photos are pro quality but won't this make it easier for people to download and use others photos without permission? By the way admin...thanks so much for all your hard work. Great job.
