Shooting tiny active puppy indoors.
Hi - He's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel - (Blenheim colour) I've had them for over 40 yerars - NOT the same one ! and saw lots as patients as a veterinarian. They come in four colours, Blenheim, Tricolour (Black tan and white, Ruby (all chestnut red) and Black and Tan. They are slightly larger than the English toy spniel - or King Charles. They are usually a dream to photograph ! I don't usually dress them up !it was just a fun photo !
Thanks for asking - Pat
Hi
He's a CAVALIER King Charles Spaniel(colour Blenheim) I've had Cavaliers since 1963 (not the same one!) and saw lots in my work as a veterinarian too. They come in four colours, Blenheim, tricolour(Black tan and white) Ruby(rich chestnut red all over and Black and Tan. They are a bit larger than the English toy spaniel known as the King Charles and have longer noses ! They are great affectionate lively family dogs and are usually a dream to photograph. I don't usually dress them up - that was just a fun photo !
Thanks for asking

Is it me but shooting puppies indoors is a bait cruel. And not very sporting
Here is the best photo of my photo shoot. Thanks for all the suggestions.
The result of the puppy photography yesterday
Looks like Nadia did a great job and so did you! When I recently shot pics of our pups (just for fun), I found placing them on a posing stool worked best. Otherwise, they were off and running!

Any hints for shooting a tiny, active puppy indoors? He will be visiting us. I plan to confine him in a basket with blanket thrown over for background and get his attention with noisy toys. Will use natural light near a north facing window. Will get down on his level. Will try both portrait and sport mode as well as aperture priority.
I really think it's time to change the gun laws in the States.
If only we could replace most of the guns with cameras, what a nice world it would be.

Quite agree...but getting back to the photo shoot...you have from what i have seen, a good approach i.e. eyes in focus (nearest one to lens) good use of the thirds rule and never shoot down on a dog unless you need that comedic pose. Flash does not bother dogs, so balance your lighting with a nice 2:1 for colour or stretch it to 5:1, there about for B&W. Use a simple studio technique - main light to the front and higher than the camera, backlight that does not shed any light on the subject ( set this high (+2 stops) for a white background or less for a balanced/ coloured background. Lastly, set a hair light at about 2/3rds of a stop of the main light...wow!
