This may be part of it. Nikon and Canon have been camera companies for a long time. Canon's first camera came out in 1937. Nikon's first camera came out in 1948. Sony was able to get into the photography business because they're an electronics giant. They didn't even start from scratch. Sony bought the assets of Konica Minolta after that company went out of business. The Sony Alpha line started in 2006.
Which of those two was the best Leica copy?
Which Sony sensor is in YOUR camera? which 3rd party lens is on the same camera?
I commiserate with you. My latest gear is A7R3 with E mount 24-70 mm F2.8 G Master, 24-240 mm F3.5-6.3 OSS for world travel, and my Sony Sonnar Zeiss 35 mm F2.8 for NYC and Boston walkabout. The lenses are smaller altho a bit heavier, and the camera body not bulkier. I was a Canon Eos 5DMK3 fan for years and I own several of their prime lenses too which I sill use with my Sony using Metabones adapter. Canon body is large and bulky. I gave up Nikon long ago but fortunately my son was able to use my film camera Nikon F3 and he still keeps the Nikon APSC FG200
Canon cameras have lagged in innovation and sorry about this. Canon and Nikon lagged quite a distance in mirrorless. Nikon and Apple iPhone in fact uses Sony's optics and image sensors.
I am very satisfied with my Sony gadget and will not go back to Canon or Nikon. The battery life have been improved and Sony Engineers LISTEN to the recommendations of the professional photographers.
I agree, it is the person who holds the camera that matters. However, Megapixel still reigns especially in landscape photography especially when you need to crank up the ISO and still not sacrificing the noise. It is great to spend more time taking photos than spending time processing. The real photographers barely utilize adobe to overprocess their best shots.

Ford vs Chevy...Again!
No competition - a supercharged Nikanon straight eight is the winner. It can be seen anytime in the UH Museum (or did I mean Mausoleum?)

I own several Sony cameras and wonder why some Hoggers hate the brand? Y’all know who I’m talking about. I remember one poster said “I’d Never buy a camera from a company who used to make toasters!” It’s just something I don’t understand!
It seems that the Sony owners started with the hate talk trying to justify what they purchased by putting down other brands.
I bought a Sony once. Made a wonderful doorstop. Lousy customer service. Fool me once...

BTW - you need to slow down to avoid posting the same thing twice. Sometimes it takes a while before a post shows up.

Really! I never understand why those who make snide remarks on any of our topics, why they are here reading it if they don't care. I was a Nikon user, then a Canon user and as I aged and the Sony's Mirrorless came out, I was hooked. I have nothing bad to say about any of them! All are great.
I have nothing against Sony, it’s the Sony fanboys that are so annoying. She me one requests a recommendation for a certain type of camera, says they have a $600 budget, and they get half a dozen people telling them they should buy a $1500 Sony.

Wait until trouble occurs. Sony knows no customer support. The warranty on their cameras is non-existant. Six months after buying an expensive Sony camera, it developed a problem that Sony had been aware of. Their idea of warranty work was to charge the customer $200.00 for repairs. That Sony camera has been a permanent fixture of the Ohio Ocean for many years. If anyone wants it they can find it 30 feet off the Cincinnati coastline!
