When we first got indoor plumbing this was the first thing we had.
My three brothers, mom, dad and grandma would draw water from this, boil it on the stove, pour it into
a washtub and all bathe in the same water.
And still used the outhouse for a while after that.
This was in the mid-1940s. Wish I had photos of that.
All four of us boys are still alive and still like each other quite a bit.
And that house still stands. It has had indoor plumbing since the late 1940s.
Great photograph. I remember hand pumps well both inside and outside usage.

What we used until I was 16 years old.
Nice image, great memory - had a hand-pump on our prune-plum farm.
Nice photo! It brings back memories of the hand pump on my grandparents' farm. They had indoor plumbing and running water, but there was an outside pump over the well next to the house. It had to be primed to make it work. Now wish I had taken a photograph of it.
Nice image. Just wish it were true vertical.
I wonder if this was the sort of pump that "Desert Pete" had to prime in that Kingston Trio song. A great picture.

We had an old one. Had to keep a bucket of water handy to pour in to prime it.

Very nice. I know of one.....still working.....on the Common at Old Sturbridge Village, MA The youngin's
get a thrill out of pumping and see water come out of the spout. Don't think I would drink it though!
Super shot and processing. Ready for the wall.
