Hello,

I was thinking of having an event and besides photography I wanted to include digital are an/or multimedia art.

I had read if you take a photo and change it that was considered multimedia art.

In checking again now I read that is digital art.

Could anyone provide clarification for this?

Thank you

Art is art. Why is it important to give it an exact label?

Neither. It is a photograph. It is not art.

A photo, changed or not, can be, and is, considered art by some. The media, way it is taken goes not matter. Film or digital.

Art is a very wide definition.

Do you mean that the digital or multimedia art will not be based on photography? If so, and if it is computer-based, then I would call it digital art. If, however, all the things in the show will begin with photography, then I would simply call your event "Photographic Arts".

I see your conundrum. Photography has morphed into multimedia. So what is the definition of photography in the digital age? The old definition, Drawing with light still seems to apply the best. The way to do that today includes camera, computer, memory, scanner, software (Photoshop). So hence, multimedia visual art. But this isn't really a good definition for photography as it just describes a list of elements that could be used.

I believe no matter how much you manipulate a photograph, it is still a photograph. Otherwise, we have to draw some line as to how much manipulation will change it into digital art, and that would entail much difference of opinion. I consider art created entirely on a computer to be digital art. Multimedia is just what it sounds like - a mixture of different media. If you add photographs to a painting or sculpture that is multimedia.

Created with a camera: photographic art, even if massaged in an editor.

Solely created digitally from one's mind: digital art, like movie backgrounds.

Created from more than one base (medium): multimedia, like clay and wood.

Going to google I found the following: Digital art is an artistic work or practice that uses digital technology as part of the creative or presentation process. Since the 1970s, various names have been used to describe the process, including computer art and multimedia art. Digital art is itself placed under the larger umbrella term new media art. Wikipedia

In visual art, mixed media is an artwork in which more than one medium or material has been employed.[1][2] Assemblages and collages are two common examples of art using different media that will make use of different materials including cloth, paper, wood and found objects.[citation needed]

Mixed media art, a visual art, is distinguished from multimedia art which combines visual art with non-visual elements, such as recorded sound, literature, drama, dance, motion graphics, music, or interactivity.[3][4]
