During WWII there were severe penalties for black marketing and price gouging.
During WWII there were also a lot of emergency produced or modified things made by skilled people to fill in where the right stuff was missing.
One guy I knew was a logistics Sgt in the Army Air Force he told a story about lack of transportation on a pacific island to get around the huge airbase. He said their mechanics took the small gas motors that powered instruments on the ground or while working on the engines, bent steel tubing and used small wheels and tires off wreaked planes (mostly tail wheels) and produced scooters that worked, ugly as sin, no springs or shocks but a lot faster than foot travel on a large airbase. Then "boys being boys" they started racing them.

So this is getting a little ridiculous. Last few days I have been to the store to get just the basic necessities and all the shelves are empty. I was lucky to get these few items. I can understand Lysol Wipes, masks and water but WHY toilet paper. Geesh.
Because Covid -19 is scarring the shit out of everyone
I have also wondered what was up with Toilet Paper hoarding and the only answer I came up with is that the Corona Virus has scared the S**t out of everybody.

I have 20 rolls of toilet paper I'm willing to trade for a 3 bedroom rancher in the western suburbs of the Washington DC area. I'll throw in 15 rolls of paper towels for good measure. OK, I'll sweeten the deal a little more, I'll add two 7 gallon spring water jugs (unopened).
I think we have the news media to thank for a great deal of the scare. Here in our state the attorney general has told everyone if they are being price gouged the state will press charges against that person. I find the "chicken little" syndrome exactly what would happen if we had a "real" emergency. People just don't have common sense any more. Its funny that more people have died this year from the FLU thus far( in the US) than the total of Covid-19 in the world in same amount of time. More people have died from opiates in the US than Covid-19, also more people die of auto accidents, yet we are freaking out because of mostly news outlets trying to up their competition with more "possibilities" instead being the voice of reason. Where is the accountability for telling the truth instead of worst case scenarios?
I'm just happy the beer and wine supply is still adequate.

Yes I've noticed, thank goodness they are starting to limit these now, whenever they get more in.
I went to a Korean grocery this morning, because I noticed few cars on the lot. They did have toilet paper, but I think it was all marked, "Sandpaper Grade". So, I got back in the car and kept driving!
No paper products today at 4 different stores in the Ellenton/Palmetto, Fl. area. Getting to be a pile of BS!!!

I have a friend that works at Walmart.
He looked into this when it started and apparently TP is made in China a lot.
There was a desire to get it from before the Corona virus infected the factories and brought it here.
From there it has snowballed into just plain exposing the stupidity of half America and how easily it is to create mass hysteria among weak and dependent minds.
