Thinking of running an Ebay auction. Toilet paper by the square. Startig bid, 10 cents, or "buy it now" for $1.00. Hurry - supplies are limited!

However -if you run out of toilet paper, I can sell you a "toilet paper need mitigation kit" for only $50 - hurry - while supplies last! It consists of calcium carbonate tablets (also known as "Tums") - you take two tablets twice daily - and a big block of cheddar cheese - you carve off a 1" piece of that baby and eat it every day. You will go a week or more between bowel movements, and when you go - well - you won't need any toilet paper... -s

The Italians sing and the Americans hoard toilet paper. If everyone would just do their usual shopping there would be enough for everyone. Deliveries are still made to stores and there would still be supply.

Can't get any toilet paper? Stock up on Immodium, take a few a day and you won't need toilet paper.

When hurricanes were coming through, I never OD'd on TP...
We didn't get stuff that needed refrigeration or stuff that water was required to make either. NEVER pasta.
Water could be at a premium and power could be out for DAYS.

When Agnes came through PA it knocked out (flooded) the water treatment plant where I lived. No water for over a week.

From the similar panic-buying proclivities of the British public, it would seem that they intend to meet their maker with the shiniest of bottoms . . .

There's a picture in the press of someone pushing the cart around the supermarket in full hazmat gear.
Not to sure he wasn't put up to it by a newspaper though. Keeps the panic status fuelled either way.

Great advice. Unfortunately a lot of people fall into the “I’ve got mine, screw you” attitude.

I went to Walmart to buy a bottle of Tylenol yesterday - the shelves were almost totally empty but I was able to get a small bottle of Tylenol PM. On the way home I stopped into a local drugstore and found well stocked shelves and was able to get a large bottle of regular Tylenol. Didn't check to see what the TP situation was there but it seems as if people do their panic buying at the big chains rather than the small stores, something to keep in mind.

Can't figure the TP, but in one store near me, peanut butter and eggs were empty, soups basically picked over, I think meats were also.

Some people don't care, they just want to make sure THEY don't run out.
Hope they like peanut butter.

So glad we have a freezer and a small pantry.
Between living in Florida (hurricanes) and up north (snow storms), I'm used to keeping stuff on hand.

So you want to make sure YOU don’t run out?

There's a big difference between keeping a stocked pantry and hoarding. We have a large pantry in our basement where I keep my home canned goods as well as purchased items. It's a great convenience to be able to go downstairs to get TP, paper towels, or a can of soup instead of driving 25 miles to the nearest store (we live way out in the country). In a situation like we're currently facing it also keeps us from having to buy things other people might need.

This will pass as people warehouse what they can at home reaches the limit.

To a point.... We don't panic buy.
I normally buy in bulk as we have the room. Been doing it for years.
A big bag of frozen food stuffs at Costco is either cheaper or better quality for the buck.
Costco only sells TP and paper towels, as well as other things in bulk.
Our box of kitchen trash bags from Costco lasts us two years, and is MUCH, much cheaper than the grocery store!
After going through my first hurricane, I learned not to panic buy, but prepare.
A dozen or so hurricanes later, we have it down pat. Works foe snow storm season also.

I went to Walmart early this morning to do some shopping for a neighbor. Paper towels had been replenished. No toilet paper at all, and no eggs. Luckily those items were not on the list.

I wanted to get some NY Rye Bread for myself, but there was only white bread, and plenty of it. The people shopping were all calm, and although the lines were a little long (only 3 registers open) there was a lot of joking but no complaining.

When I left I drove around the back. There were all kinds of trucks waiting to unload. I think as far as shopping goes, once the initial panic stocking up is over we should be in good shape.

Be well everybody!
