Allows sediment to fully dry. Last thing you need is dirty crap in your chems when you're processing. Trust me!

The thing is this camera is old, unless it was dropped by mistake by its original owner back in the day, (judging by corrosion looks recent) it's probably been sold 4 times in it's life time

You never know. It could be the original owner. It's worth trying to research the serial number.

I am sure it was thrown in the lake because it was a Canon.

JK. Canon owners.

I agree. Because it probably still works, the owner wanted to prove a point about how their gear is rugged.

Is that "215066" the serial number of the camera? If the camera was registered with Canon maybe the owner could be found. I register all of my Nikon gear on Nikon's website.

Yep. That's the serial number for the camera body.

If your friend had dug a little deeper, he may have found the owner!

You wouldn't know. Some camera of that vintage once it left the original owner tends to have many new owners afterward but many original owners of those cameras still own them.
If we are guessing we need to guess when and who would bring a camera to the lake? If it's in the 21st century who would have brought such a camera to the lake? And if that was the case it was for sure not to take pictures to document a crime.

My first photography class in 70's instructor said any important event always take the first photo of your contact info incase the film got lost or delievered to wrong person. Mail order was real popular as was a little cheaper. Most people if the got your photos of a graduation wedding ball game do not want them and the good karma if returning them is worth the trouble of a call.
Few years back I found a sd card full of a season of little league photos and we couldn't track down the owner. Was a shame as we didnt want them and it became a detective game but couldn't trace them. Would have been great to reunite them to owner.

A diving friend of mine found a camera at the bottom of a Minnesota lake in September of 2015. He brought it up and sealed it in a bag. The other day he asked if I might know anybody who could tell him what it is and how old it is. I'm uploading a couple photos I took hoping somebody here might be able to help us...I know some of you probably shot with one of these.

We were also wondering if the film would be recoverable. We didn't try to open the back, I wouldn't even know how, to tell the truth. It would be really cool if there were a way to look at the photos! I know it isn't likely, but thought we could give it a shot.

I've managed to get way behind on my UHH digests (between the COVID crisis and getting a house ready to sell, I've been otherwise occupied) and just read this today. Did your friend ever try to do anything with the film in the camera?
