I am planning a trip to the Pacific Northwest this summer. Will be in Vancouver, Canada. Would like a recommendation for a private photo guide to find the Orca Whales as well as maybe the grizzlies and eagles. Hope someone out there has had a good experience that they could share and recommend. Appreciate any help. Thank you. Terry in Indy.

Search on tripadvisor for whale watching. We did this a couple of years ago and had a excellent time. We saw Orcas, Humpbacks, and walruses. The Orcas were feeding at the time this made for a unique sighting of Orcas in the hunt. If you take the fairy to Vancouver there are hotels right by the docks.

We use a company called Vancouver Whale Watch. They were great with getting us to the humpbacks. We did not see any Orcas at the time we were there last fall. Here is their website: https://vancouverwhalewatch.com/.

I would use auto ISO, 1/500th or faster, f8 and check your histogram. if the whites are exposed properly you've got it.

Most tour boat outfits can get you close … if the Orcas are there.

How close? I believe the nearest you are allowed to get is 100 metres; 200 metres if you're in the path of the traveling whales or orcas.

The closeness referenced is true, but what can happen (and it has happened to us twice) is that the whales come to you. On one trip a mother and calf found us interesting and played around our boat for half an hour. During that time, the Captain said he could not start the engines an move until they were at least 100 yards away. On another trip, we had just finished snorkeling and had gotten back on the obat when a humpback was coming straight toward the boat, dove under the boat and came up on the other side.
Again, we could not move until is was "out of range". So while you can't get closer than 100 yards from them, they can and often do get closer than that to you.

While not a great photo, it does show the closeness of the whale to the boat.

The whales are free to come to you and that would be "really close". Boats have to stop and shut down when this happens.

Orca Network is the best way to keep up on them in the Puget Sound. I just started following them last Summer and have had great fun! For Grizzlies you'd best head for Galcier Nat. Park.

I have better photos. Just grabbed those in a hurry. I'm pretty sure these were taken from Illahee State Park, Bremerton.

Thanks. My son lives in Bremerton, and I’ll be visiting him in July. Will check it out!
